2007 F-150 FX4 w/ towing package.
Every now and then my left turn signal goes on steroids and starts flashing very fast when I put it on. It's intermittent and doesn't do it all the time. (just started doing this a week or so ago) Friday night, I hooked up the trailer and have zero power to the wiring harness, confirmed with test light. Tried the standard 4 pin and the 7-4 pin adapter, no go for either. No bulbs out on the truck. Nothing else electrical having issues. Anybody got any ideas? |

Anybody got any ideas? i'm a Ford tech, i'll try to help. when the blinker starts blinking fast it due to an open circuit, bad bulb, multifuction switch, something like that. eletrical diag is really tricky when it is intermittant. try this first, this is the way i go about diag trailer harness, lamps, signals. first check for aftermarket add on things like a non Ford trailer harness, make sure some hack didn't install the damn thing with house wiring nuts, scotch locks, etc.... if it does have an add on trailer harness. we see an unreal number of trailers/ trailer harness that got installed wrong. i've also seen bulbs that are on the edge of failing, that cause inter. issues. shoot me your VIN number and i'll run it on my Ford tech website and see if there are any known concerns, TSB's, SSM's. i'll do what i can from this end. if you feel like driving, i'm in Augusta. don't mind taking a look at it for you |

first check for aftermarket add on things like a non Ford trailer harness Bingo. I had one of those 7 pin to 4 Pin adapters. It was bad. It must have shorted out internally and eventually gave up completely. As soon as it was removed the regular 4 pin plug worked as well. Thanks Vote, I can't believe I didn't think to remove that and then check it when I put a meter & test light on it earlier. |
