I just had my Form 1 and Form 4 signed locally. the lady said she was going to run a "Triple I" for the sheriff so he could sign the paperwork. What is a triple I?
"Triple Eye" Triple I is what she said. |

"Triple Eye" Triple I is what she said. It means the sheriff is a dumb ass. His signature simply means that he is affirming they are legal to own in his jurisdiction. |

Well he signed it and I am ready to send it off to the Major come payday. |

It stands for Interstate Identification Index and it means the Sheriff is smart enough to do 30 seconds worth of checking and reading before putting his signature on a federal document that could come back and bite him in the ass. It also explains why PC isn't a Sheriff. |

The sherrif's signature is for exactly what I said. It is thoughts like that (it could come back and bite him the ass) that cause some CLEO's to not sing form 4's. |

I have no dog in this fight, but the actual wording of the CLEO sig block is:
I certify that I am the chief law enforcement officer of the organization named below having jurisdiction in the area of residence of (Name of Transferee). I have no information indicating that the transferee will use the firearm or device described on this application for other than lawful purposes. I have no information that the receipt or possession of the firearm or device described in item 4 would be place the transferee in violation of State or local law. While I agree that the CLEO is certifying that the weapon is legal in the state & local jurisdiction, I see no issue with them running a quick check to make sure you are not a felon. If the transferee was a felon he would be in violation of State or local law. I know if I was a CLEO I would feel pretty stupid signing a Form 4 for a felon. Just my humble opinion, YMMV. |

Your opinion jives with what I was saying as well. And, for Patrick, I most certainly do know what a Form 4 is. I'm also quite familiar with Title I (GCA 68) and Title II (NFA 34). What most of us here are saying is that we don't blame a sheriff for being careful when it comes to stuff like this. |
