Welcome aboard! The Glock is an excellent choice I commend you on that decision. I would strongly recommend going with a compact model over full size frame for CCW. You generally are only going to lose a couple of rounds for capacity and really nothing as far as accuracy. I comceal Glock compacts with no problem, but my fullsizes...not so much. Cost ise is the best reason to choose .40 over 10mm, |

I agree with jb. Cost is a key issue between 40cal and 10mm. Also ammo selection and availablity. You can find 40cal about anywhere, 10mm not as much. I have a G23 and love it. You can even get an oversize 9mm conversion barrel and 9mm mags and shoot 9mm in it also. Theres also .22lr conversions for it. As far as full vs compact. It really depends on you. A compact (G23) conceals easier for most. But I know plenty of people who can just as easily conceal a G17/G22 full size. Mag capacity is a few rounds. Kinda a personal choice. Check out www.glocktalk.com for a ton of Glock info. |
| 10mm is an ass kicker no doubt but for concealed carry and personal defense the .40S&W will work just fine. You will also be able to shoot at a range without punishing yourself. I have a G23 as well....fine weapon. I think capacity is a non-issue. If you can't get it done in 3 or less rounds then 13 or 15 isn't going to make a difference. You still have 10 in the compacts. Subcompacts are less rounds and they just don't feel right in my hand. |
| This is going to be a tough decision only because Ive been a big bore handgun owner thats what I like about the 10 however I think a g29 sub compact may be to small for me I have large hands....I guess Ill need to find someone in my area that I can handle them both.... |

I am not a glock person myself. Just doesnt feel right in my hands. But I did fire one subcompact in 10 mm and it was a hellacious blast from it. Recoil was stout. Now I do have a sig in 40 as thier pro model ( polymer frame ) and I love it to death. Its still big, but in comparison as a 40 I love using it with 135 gr xtp. Recoil is a little stouter then 9mm but they sure do zing ( velocity ) out there. 180 gr seems to be a little more muzzle lift and recoil wise then the 135 gr. But there is so much more out there for a 40 then a 10mm. That I think for you first auto you would definetly be better off with something thats not kinda exotic ( saying the 10 mm is exotic ) when compared to the 40 cal as far as being able to go about anywhere and buy about anything ammo wise. Price out ammo ( big difference in price from 10 mm to 40 cal ) and go rent them at someplace like double action or heaven forbid if you have to target sports on woodward ( use that as your last choice and only use that if they have a gun you want to rent and no else has it to rent. Lastly just rent it and ask the forum or someone else about the gun, dont ask them or they will try and sell you the gun at $200 more then MSRP ). I agree with the most rounds you can get theory, if you have to have 15 rounds in a compact, you better be buying a shoulder stock and barrel extension as well since you ll probably have to club them with it , if you couldnt hit them with the first 5 shots, your not going to hit them with the next 10 most likely. Besides you have revolvers which are most likely 6 or 8 rounders at most, so a few more rounds will be like heaven compared to those. I might be out at the Pit this weekend , if you want you can come out and try my 40 though its not a glock. Email me if interested. |
Im sorry where is the pit? |
