| I was going through my gun receipts earlier today and I noticed that at one gunshop...I bought two guns. One new pistol, and one new rifle. I got charged $30 bucks a piece for DROS. These guns were normally stocked guns and on the shelf. I thought DROS was only $25 bucks? And this was April of last year... |

I was talking with a local FFL who had charged some people a little more than he should have. Instead of taking it up with him, the person in particular who noticed the charge, went to Calguns (where the person and the FFL had met and aranged the met) and just slammed the FFL left and right wihtout making any mention to the FFL. The FFL got a lot of emails, PMs, etc and immediately contacted the DOJ. Afterwards he corrected his mistake and is now one of the most popular FFLs on Calguns because he is so far and open. He told me that when the new changes came in from the DOJ, he was told one thing and it was actually another. So he had been charging an extra $10 on top because he thought he was allowed/suposed to. You may be out of luck now, because of the time frame, but call up the FFL and see what they say. Who knows, some good might come of it. At the very least, they will give you an answer as to why they charged you extra. |
At this point, a year later, I'm not going to snivle about 10 bucks. But in the future I'd like to make sure this doesn't happen. So what's the skinny? $25? |
Yea I looked through all of my receipts...$25 for all of them but three. Two of them were for $30 at one dealer in San Jose, and then another $35 fee from one up in Vacaville. All of these purchases were new firearms the dealers had in stock, nothing PPT. Damn I need to keep up on my shit, I just realized I lost $20 bucks!

This is correct.....25 for the DROS state fee and than they can tack on a paper work fee or whatever as long as they don't try and put foward that it's the state fee. |
