Have a few days in Houston may 10-13.  Staying near George Bush Airport.  What checkout and to eat?

I live southwest of Houston so I don't really know the north side.

But food is really unlimited.

Any pappa's restaurant seafood Mexican, steak, etc.

Too much to mention if you go into the center city .

I don't look at Houston as a destination like San Antonio but you have the battleship Texas and the San Jacinto monument on the south east side.  Galveston farther south.  Museums.  Gun stores here and there.

I love pawn shopping and we have some great ones all over the city but that ain't nothing to brag about.

St Arnold's brewery has tour and beer tasting

None of the hotels at the airport or the nearby Greenspoint area are in particularly safe areas especially after dark. Endless number of restaurants as you head up 45 towards The Woodlands.  Happy to recommend some if you have any particular style(s) you prefer.

Heading up 59 towards Humble might be okay, but be very careful if you go towards the Beltway 8 & I-45. There's a reason that area is called "Gunpoint".

I stay over that way about once a month.

Mikes RC Track track is neat if they are having a race.

Primary Arms is down on the bottom of the loop, but the showroom is sorta disappointing.

Food....I suggest a taco truck, parked permanently at a gas station.
Taqueria El Regio is insane good!

3 Palms moto track part ---- Is pretty neat to watch too.

I could go on and on......

Yeah, I was thinking in terms of 8 and the Eastex Freeway regarding going up to Humble.  I'm a native of Webster, but grew up in Spring Branch (Northbrook class of 1982).

Actually, 8 & 45 south at least has Fishing Tackle Unlimited off of Fuqua, if you don't mind risking getting your car broken into.

Take the Will Clayton Pkwy exit to 59, no need to get on 59 just STAY on the feeder north to 1960, if you get on 59 you will have to exit past 1960 and come back...  Brickhouse Tavern on your immediate right at 1960, pub food and beer.  At the 1960 light stay on the feeder for Saltgrass Steakhouse, Pappas Seafood, Hooters, Redlobster, Chuy's Mexican food, and a Mediterranean Buffet.  A popular local fav is Italiano's(good and cheap) located about a block and a half behind the Saltgrass.  Turning left onto 1960 gets you Pappsitos Cantina, Pappas BBQ, and every chain restaurant imaginable for the next 2 miles.  Local cafe style fare is Humble City Cafe, known for breakfast and lunch, turn right off 59 feeder onto West Main St, approximately 1/2 mile before 1960, its on the right corner 3-4 blocks down.

The airport area, and south/west of the airport are bad news.
