While I was test running a customers excavator this morning I heard a loud pop and then saw hydraulic oil pouring from the top of the boom.

The customer stated that they straightened the rod. I just didn't feel like arguing with him that once the rod gets bent it will be too weak and WILL fail.

From the look of that boom they don't take very good care of their equipment anyways.

Sucks to be them. Did they try to straighten that?

Just bend the cylinder to match and it should be fine.

Uh, not even with a bench grinder.

I live the same lifestyle. An A/c will not work more than a couple of years with out having the filter cleaned or compressor replaced

So what is the price tag to fix that?

New parts would run around 8k plus labor.

If it didn't damage any of the other parts it could be repaired... New ram and seals.

Not that it's probably worth it.

It was a pretty loud pop then the oil started running down the boom. I didn't even look at the cylinder since the customer said they will fix it. I'm thinking the barrel or the guide is split.
