Looking at other states in the area and while NEW MEXICO seems to be dealing with their own anti gun stuff it hasn't gone as bat shit crazy as Colorado has. Also seems like it's starting to trend more red. |

| Albuquerque and Santa Fe bring the stats down politically. I don’t know how we’ve survived the past couple years of anti-gun measures that have been brought up with getting “only” more red flag bs and a 7 day waiting period. Both completely against US and state constitution. I don’t see the state fixing itself between most people on the government dole and political apathy. Family member recently campaigned for a small house district and gave what I felt was a strong showing with great endorsements and responses to the Abq journal questions so he even got their endorsement over the shitbag communist. She gave minimal or no answers and won handily. Idiots in NM vote blue cuz that’s what their family has always done and they can’t correlate the results and rise in crime to their voting patterns. CO is trying to outdo everyone tho, removed the state from retirement options long ago. |

Not to mention how many farmers/ranchers are close to the border. Rural democrats can’t vote for that shit & then go home & explain to their folks why they voted for that shit when the closest LEO is hours away, wolves killing cattle, & pest control. With that said, the older democrats in these areas are dying off & the radical Marxists are taking over those old seats. All they have to do is have that D behind their name & they're in, so I suspect they’ll get what they want in a few more years. The whole state is controlled by 3 cities, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, & Las Cruces. Those are the major metro areas of our state & they vote D most of the time. I wouldn’t say this state is trending red, it’s a false sense of security. If not for the gov titties a lot of people here would be homeless. Drugs are overwhelming our LEO’s, lack of funding, & Marxist prosecutors are killing this state. I wouldn’t move here. Most of us are trying to leave. |

| I agree with all of that, I haven’t gotten out as much in the state due to having 4 young children. But I am working on being out of this state in 1-2 years. Grew up in Abq and there used to be areas you knew not to go. Now the methheads and bums are citywide. Stores close early and the chip that everyone in this state carries on their shoulder grows every year like they’re just spoiling to pick a fight or shoot you for no reason. It’s refreshing visiting other states where complete strangers hold doors open or give a polite smile or nod instead of looking like they have a problem with you. I don’t want my kids around this toxic state any longer than I have to and it’s a shame cuz there’s lots of cool places here with great weather and New Mexican food! |

I grew up in northern NM and have also spent a few years in AZ for college. NM is back and forth on strong anti-gun measures, but there is a lot of political apathy in the rural counties. That leaves places like ABQ and Santa Fe getting their way out of politicians and elections. The 7-day waiting period passing last year was an indication of things to come imo. If you want a state that is a little bit stronger on gun rights, AZ and UT are the places to be. However, nothing beats living in the mountains of Northern NM. The NM rural areas, especially by the AZ and TX border are also strong red. |

| I agree with Dangermouse78. There are still enough "old" Dems to keep the AR, AK and hicap bans off the New Mexico books for now. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court's recent decisions sidestepping the Maryland AR ban and Rhode Island hicap mag ban will embolden the far left progressive Dems to try to impose the ban here again next January. Im hoping Justice Kavanaugh's prediction that a definitive decision on these questions will be forthcoming next term and will forever squelch efforts to impose these types of bans. Kavanaugh and 2 other Justices recognized that ARs are protected 2A firearms and can't be banned. Problem is the chief Justice who waffles back and forth on tough issues. |
