I do believe I have had about as much of the hurricanes and shankings as I can take, it might just be time to make a permanent bugout to Bulverde.

Just how bad is the traffic to and from SA?

I haven't started in earnest looking for a job yet, but I am a network engineer so I would definitely be driving back into SA to work for one of the bigger companies.

It's pretty bad, not as bad as when I lived in Ft. Worth...  I live in SA and regularly go out towards and beyond Bulverde for work.  I always avoid the major headache areas by bypassing it via Borgfeld Rd which runs into Blanco Rd and then take Blanco to 1604.  I live off of 1604 and Blanco area.  My father lived out in Spring Branch a few years back.  But back then it wasn't that bad of a drive...

Awful.  Avoid at all costs.

It used to be much worse before the 'super road' upgrades were put in.

It took me ~30 minutes to get from Bulverde to Stone Oak Parkway on Sunday evening.

1604 is a fucking nightmare too.

Depends on where you plan to work and what time you're willing to go to work.  Before 6:30am mon-fri is no problem and the same up til 4:00pm, anything afterwards is a nightmare.  My trip to work can take 30 minutes if I go early enough or right over an hour if I wait

I'm out in Spring Branch, just off 281 and 306. It's not that bad if you drive really early or really late. AFAIK there are plans of turning 281 into a tollroad north of 1604. Studies are still on, until 2014 I've heard.

As previously mentioned, time of travel as well as direction of travel will be the deciding factors on how bad you want to strangle the bastards around you.

Blanco and 1604 is very heavily trafficked in the AM and PM.  Once you get north of 1604 by 3 or 4 miles, it opens up quite a bit.  Borgfeld Rd. is just a few more miles north and cuts across quickly.

They're also in the process of expanding Bulverde Rd. between 1604 and Evans.  Getting it to 2 lanes plus a center turn lane would make it a viable option (upon completion).

I ride my bicycle on all the above mentioned areas (NOT Bulverde right now) and can definitely attest to an increased amount of traffic/urgency/rage/etc.
