What do I need to do get a CCW and can some one link me to the info?  If it makes a difference, I'm in St. Louis.

Here's a link to the statutes.

Hope that helps,
Rick

First, you need to take the CCW class.  Missouri Carry has a list of Saint Louis area classes:  STL CCW Classes

Then, take the class paper work with you to your County Sheriff to apply and get fingerprinted.  Don't forget about the fee.  Some counties might require appointments so you might want to check with your county's sheriff's office before driving there.  The fee differs by county too so you can ask them about that (including what forms of payment they accept) when you call too.  I live in St. Charles County though, and I just showed up.

Then, wait up to 45 days for your application to be processed.

Pick it up when it's done, and take your temporary CCW endorsement to the DMV to get it put on your driver's license or a Missouri non-driver ID.

I think that should cover it, but if I left something out, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me shortly.

I just recently got my Missouri CCW after taking the actual class several years ago.  I turned my application in and it was approved 15 days later.  I went with the separate non-driver license ID.

Getting you CCW endorsement on a seperate NON_DRIVER ID is the best way. That way "if" your DL or CCW expires at different times you wont need to go through the hassle of getting 1 new ID with the CCW endorsment and al that BS.

And, the more important reason to get the endorsment on a non-driver's ID is so that when places ask to see your ID, you don't go and 'unconceal' the fact that you may have a CCW on you.  (IE at Wal-mart writing a check, a nightclub, buying beer, whatever.)

In practice, through the years I have met only one person who noticed the somewhat obscure CCW endorsement. That young lady's brother and father both had CCW, so she had seen them before.   It probably could be for the best to have a separate ID, but very few seem to be able to spot the endorsement on the driver's license anyway.

When I applied for my license, I thought it would be easier to keep track of only one license, its expiration date, etc... When updating my drivers license, the CCW just transfered without problem or comment from MO dept of REV staff.  I thought it might be easy to forget the date for CCW renewal if the separate license were tucked away in some wallet hidey-hole. But my fear there was unfounded, as the state sent a notice of need for renewal when it was time.

I went with the non-drivers ID because of the Hazmat/Tanker/Airbrakes endorsements on my CLD. The renewal cost of my CDL every 3 years would kill me. I much prefer the cost of the non-drivers license.

You do realize you don't "renew" your DL when you renew your CCW right?
You get your license reprinted with the new endosement.  Costs the same as getting your Non-DL printed.

Nightclub??  That's a no-no in every state's book.
