My company has a position open in WV.
I have never been to the North East, and was curious what you guys like and dislike about the state? The only real down side I can think of is the cold, I hate winter, and even the temps and small amount of snow fall we get here in Arkansas drive me nuts. |

Winter is not that bad. It is bearable. It ain't Alaska. We have all four seasons. The mountains look great in the fall. Depends on where you are in WV, here in the mountains in Randolph county we have June, July, August, and winter Hell, leaves are already changing here.

Now that said, in the past few years we've had winters where we got almost no snow, while in others we got two storms in the same week where each dumped 15-18 inches of the stuff. |

Guys, What is considered the North East in WV ? To me, it's the panhandle. But who knows? My place is in Pendleton County. I have land in Preston County near the Federal Prisons in Hazelton, still getting the feel for the weather, only there a weekend every six weeks or so cutting down trees and clearing the ground for my future home. Something tells me I better buy a 4x4

I usually don't go over where you are in the dead of winter, but there's usually a bunch of snow at Coopers rocks and Deep Creek even in mid to late March. |

According to some folks I know in Terra Alta, they got slammed with 5 feet of snow at once back in 2010, that's a bit much for me. Hopefully, some other HTF members here can comment on it. |

The last couple winters in Northern WV have been..... snowy..... But we've been due fora couple bad ones. I'm from the southern part of the state and Came up this way in 2005. most winters I've seen in Morgantown have been mild. The only bad ones in the past couple of years. MY wife is from P county and We are planning to move back that direction. Right now we live about 62 feet from the Mason Dixon Line, and I dont think its too bad here..... |
|
You can't judge winters, by one location in WV, it all depends on where you are. Compared to where i live up here in the mountains, the panhandle, and morgantown might as well be Florida. Terra Alta in Preston county sees about the worst snow of anywhere in WV, along with the mountains up here where I live, in Randolph and Pocahontas counties. Now, cross the Alleghenies, over to where Waldo's cabin is, it doesn't snow much at all. In WV snow depends on where you are, and elevation.
It's the upslope flow, snow travels across WV, comes up against the Mountains, and shits it all out right over in my area, by the time it crosses the Allegenies, it's done shit out

I literally have lived from one end of the state to the other and the winters are different in each section. What Part are you looking at? Seriously? |

Winters here are mild. The snow here is not really snow. But I'm from Illinois, Nor is it that cold. But also I am from the plains of Illinois. What does fucking suck HUGE BALLS here is it never dries out in the summer. I live in Charleston and it just stays fucking wet here all summer. If you have kids forget taking them to a zoo, there is not one in the entire STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA. If you ride a motorcycle like I do, you might think of selling it because they can not build a decent two lane road in this state, and if by chance you find yourself on a road federal road, there will be so many fucking pot holes and patches in it as to make it unsafe at any speed to ride on.
In short, do not let your employer, transfer you here. I warned you.

You sure you're in WV? 250? 33? 220? 219? 119? 50? 39? 92? 9? What state did you say you're from? Or should I ask what type of bike you ride....that would be more telling than where you ride. "This" is more my style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXgvsf-AYCQ Only a few minutes of it, but it was nearly an hour of this. Kentucky 'highway' 1679. 15mi of one lane asphalt across the ridge of a few hills, US119 at the top end, KY160 at the bottom. Relatively technical route, definitely NOT a beginners ride. |

Shit, if he's looking for animals to watch....
Downtown M'burg on a payday (welfare check, not work for a living paycheck) and watch the public trade and deal. Don't let them catch you watching them in their natural habitat. One of the few species of animal that carries fo-tays fo 'tection. |

Take your kids to The wilds. It's not that far up 77 in Ohio.

Get out of the city. Dump the bar to bar to bar riding scheme.
Start out with a flip a coin ride. At every intersection, flip a coin. Heads left, Tails right. Make a day of it. Stretch it out to a full tank out and an empty tank back rides. Work up to a "max a credit card out on the way out, and max a credit card out on the way back" ride. (you have all winter to pay them off!) http://www.wvmountainrider.com/default.aspx http://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcycle-roads/motorbike-rides-in-united-states-/West%20Virginia_-6432.html http://www.motorcycleroads.us/states/wv.html http://www.openroadjourney.com/rides-and-roads/west-virginia http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/West-Virginia_124.html
Most of the 'good' roads won't be on these lists. Some you'll have to find on your own. |
