Banking on the fact that few(no?) other states have ever repealed concealed carry...i'm going to assume we won't either.
How long before the Dem's up the price of the permit/renewal? I'm sure they'll be looking for some easy prey in their revenge. |
| Not only what rcav8r said, which I agree to, but the CC law did have support from enough Dems in both houses that the turnover would have to be pretty big to change that. If the current law is self-funded, which it was designed to be, they'd have a hard time doing any dramatic increases that'd turn it into a cash cow, just to "punish" or discourage permit holders. That would be a dumbass political move. |

I'd be willing to bet with all the temps/overtime they were(are?) working, it's not even close to self funding...at least in the beginning anyway. Also, i think we have one of the cheapest initial and renewal rates in the country. Wouldn't be difficult to play the 'Everyone else charges X' card. Not saying it will, I'm just preparing for the sour grapes. |

If I had to wing out some theories here you go:
Since the maximum fee is written into law it can’t be increased on a whim. This could be problematic. Most likely the first thing a newly instated, opposite leaning gov’nor or legislature will do is overturn anything dealing with public sector unions/collective bargaining (anyone campaigning under an anti-Walker platform will be pandering to the Unions…I god-damn guarantee you that). This of course, as history has demonstrated, will drive up the cost and decrease efficiency of government. This could easily flip a profitable program into a taxpayer burden overnight and thus laying the seeds to kill an unprofitable, resource draining program. Now if the max fee wasn’t written into law, they could just jack the fee. The extra funds could turn the program into a pet project cash cow with the added bonus of the higher fees turning off many citizens. That would be a nice win-win scenario for their playbook. Personally I think CC will eventually just fall off the political radar screen and not be an issue. In 5-7 years time the max fee law will be rewritten no matter which side is in control just to keep up with inflation. I thought the $50 is a bargain considering some other states. |

Not saying it will, I'm just preparing for the sour grapes. Except that some states charge $0 AFAIK, only ones that don't issue permits. Not issuing a permit means reciprocity suffers. I'd rather pay and have a permit. |
