This much:

http://www.ajc.com/news/apd-carjack-victims-were-492524.html

The story seems to have changed now.  Original story was that some Morehouse students got carjacked and tried to call 911 while locked in the trunk.  911 put them on hold and they ended up calling campus police who came to the rescue.  Now Atlanta claims that they answered half of their calls but couldn't understand anything so they hung up...

At Georgia State, we are told to call GSU dispatch for two reasons:

1. If we are in a classroom building or on campus, GSU will know the names while APD might not
2. We are less likely to be put on hold if we call GSU.

Its sad that you can't depend on city police- you have to turn to campus police in order to get a response.

The carjacking didn't take place on campus so I see why they first called 911.

I try not to rely on police.  Most of them would prefer that you do the best you can to not rely on them too.

That must have been a good day!  Co-worker and I took a training class at another building down town. He drove. His golf clubs were in the back seat and someone smashed his wondow to get them. He called insurance and they said he needed a police report.

No lie he was on hold for 45 min before he was disconnected. Called back again and disconnected after 30!!!!  Called his insurance back told them and they said to get a report from the building's security.

Huh, I wonder if it's because people use an EMERGENCY line to report things like their golf clubs being stolen that the wait is so bad.  Every fair sized police department that I have dealt with has a non emergency line.

Atlanta won't use it.  I tried using the non-emergency line several times when I was working in retail only to hear "please hold" *click* "911".  This was for bad checks.  So stupid.  That was 18 years ago so maybe something has changed buuuut I kind of doubt it.

Believe it or not, the non emergency line forwards to the 911 line

The one time I called 911, they asked me what I did to deserve being run off the road. I'll never call again. It's all bullshit.

there's an old adage: "The people get all the police they pay for..."

they broadcast the 911 call center tapes last night, FWIW.

Yup, it seems as if my school is getting more great publicity.

The kind folks around here in West End don't take too well to Black folks trying to read.

The-Bald-Monk, am I eligible for a Combat Action Ribbon if I receive fire in West End?
