| We've been in our new house a month, discovered Howells Wednesday. Sold my safe with the house in Colorado, bought a new one from them. Nice store, nice people, good inventory. They were here at 7:15 this morning to drop it off, then hustled out to be back to open up. Good operation, I'm impressed. |

I purchased my first handgun there, which at the time was actually quite hard to find, A ruger sr1911. To my surprise not only did they have one in stock but they had the best price of anyone else who didn't have one in stock. Threw in a free box of ammo to boot!
I'll be back |

I have bought a lot from them over the years. I stop in every time I drive down south. Good people. There are just two things to note. They do not discount for cash payment. They do not really like to bargain down any of their prices. Some places are always happy to give a discount for cash and the price on the tag is never what you should pay. |

It's funny, I think their prices are a bit on the high side. But the last time I was there, they DID come down on something I made an offer on. As far as "the price on the tag is never what you should pay", I don't entirely agree. There are some shops that have high prices and you should be able to talk them down. But there are also shops that aren't aggressive with their margins / markup and there truly isn't room for them to move on a lot of items - the price is great to begin with, so no need to negotiate (although I guess it never hurts to ask). |

If I am in a shop I am not familiar with, I usually just ask how firm their prices are. You can tell from how they answer that question if there will be any room on the price. |
| I've bought several guns over the years from Howell's. I would rather give my money to the local guy any time. I was a bit soured when they more than doubled their primer prices during the scare of '08. They did manage to get me a Bushmaster at the same time though. I rarely buy reloading stuff there because of the markup. I know- supply and demand & all that and sometimes expensive is the only option if you really want something. But it still left me with a bad taste. |
