Can you hunt with a semi-automatic rifle in KY?

I don't know what state you can't hunt with a semi-automatic rifle.  Don't buy into the media BS, semi-automatic rifles are the most common rifles used for hunting.  The only thing that matters is caliber.  For instance in VA .223 can't be used for deer but in TN it can.  To answer your question, in KY you can use semi-auto unless its an area designated for black powder or bow only.  But your magazine can't have more than 10 rounds in it.  You can also use .223 for deer in KY.

Magazine can only have 10 round capacity. You can't take a 20 or 30 and just load 10 rounds.

magazine limit only applies to deer hunting. OP has not stated what he is hunting for?

Any centerfire rifle cartridge can be use for deer, even in a semi-auto. What do you want to hunt?

You can take a 20 or 30 if you have a round limiter.  Magpul has limiter inserts for 5 and 10.  I also found that a 20 round P-mag with an extra follower in the bottom limits it to exactly 10 rounds.

Pennsylvania and Ohio have hunting regs against semi auto rifles for hunting deer and other large game. Indiana has some really odd laws regarding using only ammo that uses larger than .35" diameter bullets but with a case length shorter than 1.8" overall length, with no stipulation made for semi auto or manually operated firearms.

So you cannot use a .30-06 bolt action rifle (you can use a .30-06 bolt action PISTOL)  but you can use a .38-40 Winchester lever action rifle in Indiana. The venerable .30-30 rifle round in a Marlin or Winchester lever action rifle is illegal to use for deer in Indiana but you can use a full auto .458 SOCOM AR-15 carbine/rifle for Deer hunting.

The .30-0 and .30-06 do not have large enough diameter bullets (ONLY .30 cal) and are overall too long (exceeding the 1.8" overall length maximum) whereas the .458 SOCOM in an AR is legal because it is larger than .35" caliber and shorter than 1.8" OAL and their is no specific stipulation against lawfully owned full auto firearms being used for deer hunting in Indiana.

I am originally from PA...I just moved back to TN (Ft. Campbell area) several months ago.  You actually can't hunt with anything semi-auto except a shotgun for birds and small game!  I am looking to hunt some coyotes with a friend of mine and was thinking of using my SIG 556.
