I posted this in GD, but thought maybe it would help to post here also. One of my disabled sportsmen posted this on our site. I thought I'd pass it on to see if you all might have any ideas.... I participated in a meeting last month with the NY State DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) - Region 8 here. They will consider amending their mandate of no permanent blinds on state land to promote access for all. The blinds or shooting houses should be large enough to accommodate a person in a wheelchair and a companion. I am thinking 8x8 feet should do. Blinds must be accessible to all with a caveat that if a person with a disability wants to use one, an able-bodied person must yield. Money will need to be acquired for the building (plywood, studs, nails, paint, tarpaper, roof shingles etc.) materials. Construction of four (4) blinds are targeted for a specific test WMA (Wildlife Management Area) where deer, turkey, and waterfowl can be harvested. A hard-copy building plan must be submitted and approved prior to having a group of volunteers start working. Obviously, this won't happen overnight. The plan needs to be approved, money must be acquired through tax-deductible donations, and a volunteer work crew established. There must also be a commitment to maintain the sites after construction. As a means of soliciting aid, help or whatever else you want to call it I will be posting this on several sites frequented by members from Upstate NY. Thank you for your tolerance if you see this repeated. Please help and share with me if you have any input. Your ideas and experience and help are important. I will provide my home address if you email me that you have printed plans. Here is my original thread... www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=544298 TIA |
