Long story short: I need help.....my wife just moved with the kids to Ohio and I have a butt load of bills here. We were counting on her going back to work but now that is not going to happen. If I don't start making better money I could lose the house.
I'm 54 years old. I have worked as a Peace Officer, Security Guard and I spent several years in the Army. I have a Class A CDL but no exp. I had some medical problems a few years ago and the residual result is that my hearing, balance and weakness in my face muscles mean my police career is over. At 54 years the soldier thing speaks for itself...I'm a gun nut of course but I'd drive if someone would hire me. Does anyone know of any jobs that I might be able to get? I live in between Austin and Lockhart in a sprawling metropolis call Niederwald.... On top of all this I don't know what we are going to do about our girls....I've done a lot of crying today. |
| I'm in Victoria and everyone around here is hiring CDL drivers. You can apply on line with Schneider. I think that's how you spell it. They are advertising on the radio they are hurting so bad for drivers. Thomas Petroleum is also looking but you need a Hazmat to go with that CDL. |
| I haven't seen the signs lately but I know WB was looking for haul truck drivers in Waco on the part of I-35 they're working on. I believe their yard is about 4 miles on the north side of Lacy-Lakeview (North Waco) on the south bound side of 35. Good luck on the search man. |

Schneider is a solid option, I worked for them for over a year. They trained me, I got a steady check, and enough experience to slide into a driving job with a local company. Schneider will allow you to take the tractor home, since the closest yard is in Dallas. They are pretty good about getting you home when you need it. Not to mention their dedicated routes which could have you home every night or so.
Be careful researching the oilfield driving jobs. I know two people fired in less than 6 months from that shit. The one thing they have in common is not being in great physical condition. That is extremely demanding work, and if you're overweight or have old nagging injuries, they will get rid of you. They may offer considerably more money than places like Schneider, but X number of years look a lot better on a resume than Y number of months with an oilfield company, regardless of who they contract for. If a move to Ohio is in your future, look into Schneider. They routinely sent me through the company yard in Columbus, Ohio. I think there is another location in Dayton, but memory is fuzzy. Also, Schneider will let you take passengers, after enough time with the company. That means you could take your kids with you on the road for two weeks at a time. Good luck OP, and hang in there. |
