Just ran the Classifier yesterday. BTW, if you live south of Perry, north of Leesburg, we are trying to get a chapter of the Ga IDPA set up under the Camp Sumter organization out of Andersonville. It is a new range there. |

Running your first classifier is always difficult. Now that you've seen it, done it, and know what to expect you will jump up pretty fast.
I classified MM my first time out and felt pretty dejected. Like you I feel I generally hold my own in classes and on the range. On my second time out I made SS and on my third I scared EX (but didn't quite make it). I am hopeful to make EX on my next run. We'll see. Hang in there. You'll get it. |

New to IDPA here (shot my first idpa match yesterday) what is the process to get classified. First, join IDPA. Then keep watching the www.gadpa.com schedule for their next scheduled IDPA classifier. They do it on a regular basis. Or find a certified IDPA Safety Officer and ask him to run you through the classifier. |

I like the classifier. I use it as a good gauge to test new equipment or guns and to keep track of performance over time. It covers a lot of skills in 90 rounds. I generally shoot it once every 3-4 months whether officially or unofficially. I'm fortunate to have a lifetime exemption from taking it every year.. but I like it for the performance tracking.
The 3rd stage is really the classifier. As long as you don't blow the first 2/3 of it and pull in a decent last stage, you'll do pretty well. |

Thanks for this last tip. I think this is exactly what I did. I had new shooter jitters and blew the first stage, started settling down the second stage, and shot like I normally do the third. Didn't drop but 2 points on the last stage, and time was pretty good I thought. At least the SO didn't go to sleep on me. |

It is a new range there. I made master last year, via the classifier.. Two pieces of advice, one.... Don't make master through the classifier win up.... I am upset that i did it via the classifier it would of been a lot more satisifying to do it at a state match. Second, the 3rd stage is what makes or breaks you.. You can't miss fast enough here.. Get a good site picture and get your hits on stage 3. Most everyone tries to speed up here instead of slow down. I can't stress it enough.. get your hits... |
