| I'm curious about taking some classes on how to help wounded in an emergency. Can anyone suggest some classes for somebody with no medical background? |

Check out the classes offered by NOLS ( National Outdoor Leadership School). Take a Wilderness first aid course as a starter then a Wilderness First Responder if you desire. I have the WFR certification and it was well worth the time invested.
REI collaborates with NOLS for the WFA classes several times each year, check the REI website for class offerings. The advanced classes are found on the NOLS website. The WFR class is a 9 day endeavor, about 60-40 class to hands-on. |

Another one to look at would be Dark Angel Medical. The class feels expensive perhaps, but it does include one of his med kits - but I think you can buy the class without the kit for reduced cost if that's an issue.
Kerry (who started Dark Angel) is a great guy, and a great instructor. I took the class 2 years ago and learned a ton. I've been trying to get my wife in one of the classes this year and I was going to sit through it again, but scheduling hasn't worked out. He comes to Georgia 2-3 times a year. He'll be in Atlanta Dec 12-13 if you're free a few weekends from now. Otherwise it looks like he'll be back in April and then again in October of next year. I was actually thinking of buying a slot for all of my employees in an upcoming class as part of their Christmas bonus. Because as much as I love guns and carry one daily, I'm much more likely to need medical training than to ever need my firearm for a situation I'm presented with. |
