anybody here shoot IPSC? My roommate used to and he's getting back into it, so I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm going to the shoot next Sunday to watch and get a feel for it and I'll probably shoot the next time around

Please don't buy the skin tight matching shirt and shorts with advertiser logos...they look like professional cyclists without the helmets

trust me, I'm doing it ONLY for personal gain. I couldn't care less about beating anybody in the spirit of competition. I just want to hone my skills and have a little fun.

ETA: that's creepy. They don't do that kind of stuff, do they?

IDPA

One of the unique facets of this sport is that it is geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced shooter.

The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive.

The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. “Competition only” equipment is not permitted in this sport.

The firearms are grouped into five (5) divisions: 1) Custom Defensive Pistol (.45ACP semi-automatics only); 2) Enhanced Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber semi-automatics); 3) Stock Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber double action, double action only, or safe action semi-automatics); 4) Enhanced Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers); and 5) Stock Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers). See Appendix One – Equipment for delineations in the revolver divisions. Shooters are then classed by like-skill levels with progression from Novice (NV); to Marksman (MM); to Sharpshooter (SS); to Expert (EX); and, finally, to Master (MA).

Once you're in there's no turning back.  You'll love it bro.  Just shoot safe and have fun.  Forget about speed for now, concentrate on the basics primarily on safety.  Speed will come naturally.  Good luck.

Don't let the whiners discourage you........find out for yourself. Take a gun and go shoot the match........nothing to lose and probably a lot to gain.  DS has some great shooters.

Hey JTW_Jr---
What's the lineup for this month's subgun match?  Any other weapons needed.........pistol, revolver, rifle?  Kinda short notice for me.....but hey it's only a 7 hour drive.

Thanks for the response. Actually I'm on the mailing list.......I just hadn't heard anything in the weeks leading up to this match and since it takes a bit of organizing to make the trip down I figured I'd ask here.  I enjoyed the September subgun/revolver match last year and will try to make it to a couple of matches this season.
Good luck tomorrow.

Next month will be subgun , handgun , shotgun , with Nov match being subgun and rifle. Undecided if the handgun will be a pin table or a couple death stars.

I went and shot a couple of stages this morning. It was actually pretty cool. I had a blast in stage 2 with the shoot house.

Definitely going to be at least a monthly thing!

and I didn't see any skin tight shirts. There was one guy wearing a tight under armor shirt, but i mostly saw t-shirts and a couple of jersies with sponsors on them
