BUT...I did pick up a 1911 last night. Something I said I probably wouldnt do, but it happened somehow!

Leanman talked me into it......
"you should buy a 1911 and shoot Heavy Metal" he said

"shut up" I said

"seriously, Heavy Metal 3-gun would be alot of fun"

"hush your mouth" I said

"have you found a 1911 yet" he said

"leave me alone" I said

"so are you gonna swing by to pick me up on your way to get one"  he said

"I'll be there in 45 minutes, we have to be in Independence by 8"    I said

Leanman is a SNEAKY bastard!   Not sure how he did it, but I'm pretty sure its the same voodoo he used to get me to sell TWO .308 ARs and buy another OBR!

Anyways....Springfield Loaded A1 Target 1911. Hate the front sight, hate the mag release, hate the slide release, and hate the grips. Ordered a Dawson front sight, ordered a Wilson slide release, ordered new grips, and backordered a Wilson oversize mag release.

On a happy note, a big midway box arrived today with a bunch of CMC 10 round mags.

Negative sir!   Limited capacity, gunsmith required for so many different things,...had little desire for one compared to the Mr Potato Head of guns, my Glock.

Now that I have interests in shooting heavy metal class in 3-gun....1911 finally seems desirable to me. Sure is purty now that I have one!!!

I wouldn't go so far as to say a gunsmith is needed, just a dremel and a steady hand for some things and some emory cloth for others

I consider it a huge step up from the kitchen appliance that the Glock.

There is no better handgun platform than the 1911. Sure there are some bad one that have given the platform a bad name. The reason you don't see "bad" Glocks......there are so few clones it's not a problem. When the price range on a platform is $400-$4000+ you're going to have turds.

And to think I bought a gen 4 G27 and during a stress combat course was able to screw it up beyond a Glock Certified armorer's field diagnostical ability. He managed to get it running with a puzzled look, but had it been a real situation I would be dead. My 1911 never jammed with my good mags and proven ammo.

If you haven't shot it yet, just wait until you pull the trigger.  The Glock will go in the safe.  There is no better feel than a 1911 trigger.

Shot it this morning, gonna shoot it more this weekend. Glocks can sleep sound right now. The trigger is definitely different in comparison, but is also heavier than the Zev Tech trigger in my Glock, something I intend to rectify soon enough!   I do notice a firmer rest that I like so far, and the glass rod like break is pretty nice.

The capacity is the biggest drawback for me...would be useless for Tac Optic and Tac Iron divisions, but perfect for Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal Optics!

Point Ability and Trigger.

I ain't much for be"in a fan of nothin. It either works for me or it's gone and replaced with something better.

-that said-

If the XD and Glock up and left it would be OK.

If the Beretta Elitte and Hi-Power were to leave it would be sad.

-that is-

Until the new STI  2011 kit with shroud and new Trijicon reflex sight arrived. I wouldn't miis either not one damn bit.

-but-

I'd have to buy two STI 2011 kits, shrouds and reflex sights cause Beretta Elite is what my daughter uses as multi-comp pistol.

You don't know what expensive gun habits is, but you will.

Just do yourself a favor and sell the damn thing.

FIFY.  Bad 1911 triggers can be just as crunchy and heavy as most any other bad trigger.

Next time we have a shoot, I'll bring a duffel bag and all you guy can dump all your unloved Glocks in there...  I'll take'em home, show'em some love and board'em with mine....

It's a tool. That's all any gun is. tools.

Save your duffel bag though, unless you've got cash, 1911 or a duffel bag full of 1911 parts.

I'd even trade for some Hornady 121 grain HAPs.

But it had better wait after September. The hysteria of regional Glock match makes having one around worthwhile.

I like to fell over laughing last year when ROs were scoring 35 yard target.

RO said, you  know..... over half the shooters here today didn't hit this target.

It's not that Glocks a bad gun and it's not that I can't shoot well with one.

anytime I put one of my 1911s in someone else's hands I have trouble getting 1911 back.

Everyone seems to have more success in 10-ring with 1911s than the others.

That's my personal observation anyways.

THANKS FOR THE OFFER. Mighty gentlemen like of you.

My son has some LEDs for projects, so I had him rig one up to a battery pack. I removed the mag, and ran the wire and LED up through the mag well and into the barrel.

That's as close as I can get to a Phaser.

I've already expressed I want my holster to have a red background with black outside, leaving a 3/16" border of red around the black outer piece.....pretty subdued for me!

I shot a local USPSA "friday night" match that was as pure a Comstock-scored match as there ever was.  You stood ~7yds from a single IPSC target (back then we didn't have those weird alien things) and at the buzzer you drew and shot to your heart's content.  The best score was usually obtained by just shooting your gun dry and not going for a static reload as the added time was simply not worth.  I emptied my 19 shot .40 Limited pistol in ~1.75 seconds including the draw.  All A's.

Yea, I'm aware of plastic on 2011s. Safariland has a $200.00+ holster just made special for them too.

1911s deserve leather.

One of my 1911s has been seen in Safariland trigger guard and a muzzle stick holster.

Not much else to choose from when sporting a shroud, shifter and Aimpoint.

I'm rough on all my guns. Worn finishes don't bother me. Besides it will give an excuse to refinish or cerakote them.
1911smith, dont get me wrong, if I had a1911 like the ones I have seen from you, I would be more cautious of the custom finishes. But I have yet to spend the money or time on a 1911 to worry about its looks. Which leads me to a new peoject once funds can accommodate it in the near future. And I will need plenty of help and knowledge since this will be a new platform in which I have not learned yet.
