If you live in Illinois ––
and you can not carry in Illinois, what is the purpose of getting an out-of-state CCW permit? |
|
I took the Florida non-resident permit class in case Il would happen to pass cc.
I figured that if Il should pass the law that there would be a stampede to get into the classes and get a permit. Hopefully, I figured, the Florida non-resident classes would be recognized by IL and I wouldn't haver to wait to get into a class. Even if the class isn't recognized by IL it never hurts to learn more. |
| I have several CCW permits from other states and travel by car ( I don't plan to fly much anymore) to visit family and friends in Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Florida. I also travel a bit for firearms competitions. Once I get outside of Illinois, a pistol goes on my hip and doesn't leave there until I get home. It really pisses me off that I can legally protect myself and my family damn near everywhere in this country except where I live. |

Also in the micro scosh of a hope when CCW passes Illinois would honor my Florida or Utah permit. This would allow carry much quicker than the mass hysteria and wait that the new application process would present. Yes and no. I've heard that there's language floating around that requires a resident to have an IL CCW to avoid the "problem" (lack of participation and the resulting influx of $$$) that MO encountered with their first draft. Apparantly many MO folks were getting NR CCW's from other states and paying less.
There's also no specific mention of any reciprocity or recognition right now. Have to review the language to see for sure. |

In all honesty I don't care about the language as much as just getting are dam foot in the door. I have actually considered moving out of state over this. They can charge a premium and I will still be well ahead of the game.
