Hi all, I haven't posted much but I have been following this board for a few years and just wanna say its great for info. So here's my dilema, I recently moved to Putnam county from Oklahoma. I used to have several ranges close to my home that i could shoot at. Now though I only seem to have the option of going to a ramshackle little place 30 minutes from my home or driving all the way down towards Nashville to use 25yrd indoor ranges. Now I love guns about the only thing I care about is my guns and my wife. I can play with her anytime I want :) but I am having trouble playing with my guns cause there aint nowhere to go withthem it seems like. And there don't seem to be any gun stores short of driving for hours to get to a bigger city. All the ones around here only sell hunting stuff for the most part. So in short: WHERE ARE ANY GOOD PLACES TO SHOOT NEAR PUTNAM COUNTY AND WHERE ARE ALL THE GOOD GUNSTORES. please help i haven't gone shooting since october just before i moved to TN. thanks all, Syro

No ranges near you, AFAIK. Most of those good ole boys just go out to the back 40 of someone's spread & blast away.

Tech has an indoor range but that's probably reserved for the rifle team only, IMO.

As for gun shops, there's supposed to be a good one in Smithville, not too far from you. Some country music singer owns it, I can't remember his name. He's on Gordon Liddy a lot as well. Aaron Tipton, maybe????

Cookeville is kinda like the tain't on a female, it's neither Nashville nor Knoxville. There is Frontier Arms (I think) in Kingston, down I-40 a bit in Roane Co. Nice options in there & they'll work with you on pricing.

No doubt this is an opportunity for you to sharpen your googling skills for a gunshop.

Hopefully, someone else will chime in who knows the area better than I do...............

Welcome to TN & arfcom, BTW! If you're up for it, some of us meet for breakfast at the Pope gun shows in Smyrna. You're certainly most welcome to see if you can stand us!

Sorry I coudn't be of more help!

There is a range in Overton county just north of Putnam county. Bend of the River. It is owned and operated by Charlie Pardue. He used to have a gunshop in Cookeville, but it either closed or moved.

+1 For Bend of the River.

Arron Tippons gun shop is on the Murfreesboro side of Smithville, but it ain't much.  More a country store than anything.

There is a gun shop and real gun smith at Brush Creek near Alexandria, but he will not work on 'Black Guns'.

There is a gun show at Sparta at least once a year, other than that most shop at the shows at Smyrna, Nashville, or Knoxville from that area.
