I was the blonde buy wearing a greenish shirt and khaki shorts (if you saw me at all).

Tell me more about your experience with the HK45, because I'm looking at getting one.  Was it the full-size or compact?  What did/didn't you like, etc. etc. etc...

Ahhhh, you were looking at the Glock 30 at the counter commenting on how you "wish you knew that it was there", after we talked about range fires.

I'm kind of torn on the HK45.

Pros:

- It feels GREAT in the hand, better than anything else.  The grip is amazing!!!

- Single Action trigger is as good as my 220 combat.

- Bore axis is lower than before

- Looks cool

- Smooth slide action (not "notchy" like the 220 is)

- When slow fired, it is EXTREMELY accurate........... like same hole accurate at 21ft

Cons: (Disclaimer, I have fired it once, so this is only "First impression)

- Left side mag release "ear" contacts the tip of the trigger finger when pulling the trigger. I have a blister on my trigger finger from it after firing only 130 rds.  I will have to file it down before I shoot it again.

- DA trigger is typical H&K suckage.  However due to the design of the gun it is easy to keep on target.

- DA to SA transition is more pronounced than on any other gun I own.  Follow up shots were a bitch.

- I found recoil and muzzle flip to be excessive.  I shoot LOTS of .45, probably 1200rds a month through my 220 and 1911.  After the first mag, I actually stopped and looked at the box to make sure it wasn't +P (Take this with a grain of salt, as I have never shot PMC .45 before, so it could have been the ammo)

- The gun left me physically tired after 100 rounds.  This NEVER happens to me.  I don't know why it happened, and it is possible that since it was 95F in the range it was just that.

Next time:
- It is only fair I do a back to back with my 220...... I'm kind of scared to, because if this is all not in my head, and the 220 shoots significantly better, the HK is gone.  This is my 3rd (and final, it it doesnt live up to my expectations) HK, I hated my USPs (as one is on the EE right now).

- I had the "small" backstrap installed this time.  I think that "may" have been a big part of the problem.  I put the "medium" one on when I got home, and it seemed to point much better, so I still need to shoot it with that.

- I think that if I could get rid of the DA to SA transition disparity it would make the gun MUCH more shootable.  If ANYONE KNOWS where I can buy the LEM 4.5 to 5.5 lb parts (no I'm not sending it to HK) I will buy it today, pay for next day shipping and try it this week, and let you all know.

- I will bring "known" good ammo, and shoot that.

I REALLY REALLY want to like this gun more than my 220.  I think the LEM trigger might do it for me.

Matt, if you want to shoot it let me know when, I would love to hear what someone else has to say about it (non-H&K "fanboy" opinion, those guys are the WORST when it comes to "Kool-aid" consumption)

I think as a "Service pistol" it fit's the bill nicely, it is rugged, reliable, and will not easily slip from your hand.  But for a $1000 gun............well........I would expect more from Larry Vickers, quite frankly feel "duped" about this being "the next 1911".

We shall see!

Good to get this information now, because the only thing holding me back on getting the HK45 is that I want one with a threaded barrel.  I know they make it for the HK45 Compact, but I want the grip of the full-size.

Plus, since they already make a threaded barrel for its counter-part, and (watch, I guarantee this will happen) since it will eventually replace the USP, I definitely see HK coming out with a HK45 Full size variant with a threaded barrel.  That comes out, and I'm buying.

I'll definitely take you up on your offer, should the chance ever arise again!

They are already selling HK45 threaded barrels.  For both the HK45c and the HK45.

I have my doubts that it will replace the USP.  If nothing else, the USP 40 and 9 will keep in production.  The USP 45 may become history after all the variants for the HK45 are finally released.

Well......... even though I have a few gripes with the HK45, it is exponentially better than the USP in every way.  I can't see them keeping the USP at all after they have all calibers out for the new model, there would be no reason to.

My comparison above was mainly influenced by my P220 combat in mind.  If I did it with the USP instead, it wouldn't even be worth typing.
