I received information indicating someone opened an credit account using my information.  I contacted the  local popo who has been great about working this case.  Based on the information used, it appears to be fallout from the breach of state records a few years ago.

PSA - Check your credit reports.

That sucks, do you have any type of identity or credit protection service?

Just curious, how can you tell it was from that data breech as opposed to something else?

I had protection provided by the state for one year. I just alerted the credit agencies too.

I assume it was related because the information they had matched the type of data that was stolen (SSN, DOB, Name).

that free stuff they offer now is crap.  You can pay for lifelock and get much better coverage.

Found out my main credit card (used on gas, groceries, etc., but not gun parts) was compromised.  It is part of Capital One, and they are sending me a new card.  I watch the account like a hawk, and have seen no fraudulent charges, but they said a retailer that I used was compromised (Target?).  Just a heads up.

Same here. I was one of the poor souls who got hit a month ago when Widener's got hacked. Luckily Chase blocked the transaction, around $500, and contacted me.
