Preferably Indy or points South. I don't often need any serious work done but would like to find someone for occasional trigger jobs or sight replacements. I don't know of anyone around here. Thanks. |
I believe a lot of their work is sent out to this man. Ray Saltzman Gunsmith/machinist 3896S 400W Tipton IN 46072 765-675-2071 |
Some is sent to him but only the high tech stuff like barrel threading and the like, the majority of their work is done in house. Have you ever called Ray and had work done? I was led to believe he didn't take work from the general public . |
I haven't ever talked to him but I would imagine that a gunshop would tell you he does not "take work from the general public " as they would not want you to cut out the middle man. I would suggest to call him and ask. I learned his name from an employee there. |
A friend told me about this guy:
(The STI was the friend's; I've heard good things about him from others too.) He's a lot closer to "points south" than Darrel. Darrel has always done good work for me, but lately his turnaround time has been long. Might depend on the job though. He did a couple of things for me while I waited, but the drop-off/pick-up work (AR barrel turndowns) have taken longer than estimated. |

I just had some more work done by Neil Keller. I know he's not "points south," but if you don't mind the trip to Decatur, he's one of the best in the country. Kustom Ballistics |
+1 for Kustom Ballistics, they have the slide from my wife's new Springfield XD .40 Sub-Compact putting night sights on it right now. I have had them do minor work (sight work) for me before and they are good and quick. As for Elmore's, I would steer clear if you are doing anything more than sight stuff. I had him install a King's ambi safety on my Kimber Compact a few years ago and it was horrible! When I left there, he told me that it would, "break in" and would start working fine because it wouldn't "click" off and on. I couldn't even get the safety to engage and it would slide off of safe while carrying it. I ended up sending the gun to Evolution Gun Works and they confirmed that it was a "botched" install and they properly fixed it for me. |

I just had work on my AR done by a guy named JR that lives on E. 18th st. in Indy. I got his name from Pop Guns. Dang it, I can't find his phone number. I've seen him at a lot of the local gun shows over the years but had never met him or knew he was a gunsmith. He's latino and is in a wheelchair. Big guy with long hair & beard (graying). Super nice guy. Good price. Unbelievable gun knowledge! If I find his info, I'll post it. |
