What are the best ones in FL?
I noticed Fios are only in a few counties. What you recommend? Any input appreciate it.! |

For cable speeds, comcast is it. They own it all, pure conglomerate. Even if you find a local company they still use comcasts backbone.
DSL is limited in range, service & speed. FIOS... some business's in major cities may have access to it. I don't know anyone that actually has it. comcasts speeds are fine, their, prices, reliability & customer service are VERY lacking. |

In before Howie Phelterbush? I hear he LOVES Comcast
I had Verizon FIOS in Virginia and LOVED it. I had 50MB service for ~$75/month that was rock solid. Ran multiple Vonage lines, video security systems, video conferencing systems, etc., for my business and never had a hiccup. There's no Verizon in SWFL, so had to switch to Comcast when I moved here. First, understand I live on an island where the cables hang underneath of the bridge or are run underwater. From there they run down Main Street, and then branch off from there. I live at the end of two miles of swamp where the entire neighborhood's cable has been laying on top of the ground for two years. My service is VERY adequate for home use in spite of all this, but not so much for business. We have occasional outages, although they're surprisingly rare. My VOIP frequently breaks up while on business calls, though, and I can't realistically get more than 20MB service without tripling my $75/mo bill. i would kill to have Verizon FIOS again, but Comcast has been okay for what they are. One important note about Comcast - they now offer mobile hotspots at every home or business with a Comcast router as part of your service. EVERYWHERE I go I can find one and use it for free. I have a long-range router on my boat and a portable extender for when on land. I work from my boat a few days a week, and as long as I'm within a mile or so of land - I have N band high speed wireless. That's been a nice perk. |

I was reading Comcast is soon to be capping home internet just like smartphones, any hearsay around there about it? All ISPs are dying to 'tier' your service types and cap them (or charge more for premium plans). People are now replacing their phone service, cable TV a and more with their internet. I haven't had POTS (phone), cable/satellite TV service, a commercially-provided security system or more for almost a decade. I use my internet connection in conjunction with Vonage, Netflix, etc. That's becoming normal, but was not something ever anticipated by ISPs. Ultimately - how do you make more money if you're an ISP? Everyone has Internet now, so it's not like you can expand your client base. Prices are driven downwards via competition. Service only gets you so far. Infrastructure costs are high, but offering 'business class' service seems to be the only way they get higher returns. They're faced with the same challenge of phone companies 15 years ago - innovate and gain new income streams or die. The problem is that streaming video (like Netflix) now accounts for a major portion of people's Internet use. Streaming services demand the highest quality of service (they are 'real time' and any delay is noticeable), yet clog the network at the worst of times. ISPs are lobbying for the 'regulation' of the Internet, because it would allow them to classify your services (i.e. Streaming video versus web browsing), and then cap bandwidth - and hopefully charge more for premium service. Will it happen? Some day. Is it a Comcast thing? Not at all. I wouldn't let it have any influence on your ISPS today. I think the recent push for 'regulating the Internet' is the first of many steps we'll see (just like we did with health care and everything else .gov wants to control - for our own good of course). |

Verizon sells three-state territory, including 1.6 million FiOS users $10.5 billion deal gives Frontier a lot of phone, Internet, and TV subscribers. http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/02/verizon-sells-three-state-territory-including-1-6-million-fios-users/ not looking forward to this at all from what I'm reading about frontiers customer service and reliability |

Quoted: USMCLIFE, What part of Fl are you so I can look into it, I have FiOS and it is excellent. I will look into brighthouse thx I'm in Valrico a suburb of Tampa to the east side of Tampa near Brandon, Florida. We had Brighthouse Networks before we switched to Verizon for their FIOS for TV & Internet...I have mix review about Brighthouse Networks we had great service with them but the service went down hill through the fifth month during the time we had them we kept getting slow Internet speeds from what we were getting they didn't know what was causing it they did allow us to turn off service for free cause all of our problems we had with the service. |
