Just wanted to stop lurking and stop in and say "Hi!" I won't bore you with a ton of details, but maybe just a quick introduction of myself and a brief explanation of why I'm here. I'm Jeff and I live in Missouri. Married (20 years this past April) with three kids who bring us a lot of happiness. I'm a career fireman with a city department and I feel I'm living the dream. I've also got 21 years military service (USAF) and am still serving in the Reserves. I've been qualifying with the M-16 every year for that many years, so I DO have some experience with the AR platform. I've been deer hunting (primarily) for 25 years or so. Archery is my preferred tackle for whitetail, but I do gun hunt when season opens. I've also hunted squirrel, rabbit, ducks, and antelope (Wyoming). This past winter, I thought I'd give coyote hunting a try, and although I never connected, I found it to be fun and exciting. Lugging around the 30.06 just got old so I thought I'd look at the AR platform to hunt with and play with too. That's what brings me here....currently in the process of building my first one. I've already ordered the upper and should have it some time next month. It's from Specialized Dynamics and is an 18' in .223 with a 1:9 twist. It has an aluminum free floating hand guard and mid length gas system. The guy apparently puts out a super product so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it. Anyhow, I ordered a Spike's stripped lower yesterday from Brownell's. I'm leaning towards the RRA 2-stage trigger with their LPK also. For the stock I'm leaning towards the Magpul CTR for some adjustability with different clothing on. As far as the glass, I'm still debating on that one. Any thoughts or opinions on anything else I should consider?? Great site here. Tons of information to search from. Jeff |

If the upper comes with a BCG I'd say you've got covered. If not, Pallmeto Arms has deal where you buy the BCG and can add the charging handle for another 10 bucks.
I'm in the St. Charles area and am intrested in coyotye hunting myself. Put the Nikon Coyote specail 3x9 scope on my ar. Got a really good deal on it in the EE. |

you seem like a nice guy, and since I treat firefighters in KC a good amount and generally like them......I feel I must warn you.....RUN from this place. The people on this forum are not your friends! They will talk you into Buffalo Wild Wings, they will show you guns and NFA toys you never thought about buying before....the damage to your wallet can be severe at times!
Once you are fully hooked in, they dont just LET you go either. Before coming here, I had ONE AR15 that was pretty basic, a crappy .45 Ruger pistol, and a .270 deer rifle. They are all gone in favor of registered SBR, silencers, .308 AR deer rifles, more expensive handguns, stacks of ammo...... Oh, btw......welcome to the MOHTF. Wanna meet for some range time, I've got some cool (contagious) toys you might like and have to get versions of your own.

Quoted: It does come with the BCG!! I'm definitely leaning towards a Nikon or a Leupold. Just need to decide on what magnification would best suit my situation. 3X9 or 2-8 power. Look at the new Vortex Viper PST line (see above in the site sponsors). I have a 2.5-10X44, MOA dials, illuminated PST. Great glass for the money. |

Welcome. It is always great to add another MO member to the team. A 1-4 would be a good choice for shooting and moving and the 3-9 or 4-12/16 would be a fine choice for the short ranges in MO. Let me know if you need a good price on a Nikon or Leupold. Beware of this man.....he lures you in with good prices, fair charges for transfers, and then he shows you REALLY cool stuff! BTW.....when should I send my next installment SUB_MG? Haha |

WELCOME!!! You should take the Basic AR15 Carbine Course coming this Aug 27th!! I would definitely be interested in that! Is there a link or something where I can find additional information on it? I'm not sure I'd have my gun by then if I'd need it for the course.... Thanks for the suggestion. |

Welcome aboard. Nikon makes good affordable glass. I have a 3x9 x40 on my RRA with BDC reticle. You can see calculations for distances online or get the I phone app for a couple of bucks. For the price its is a great scope and I wouldnt hesitate to use it for deer hunting in the brush or coyote in the field -wouldnt hesitate to buy another.
As for the RRA 2 stage trigger, It is an affordable great feeling trigger. I'm building my deer rifle this month with a 6.8 upper and plan on using one in it as well - it is an addiction. I tried to say I just need another upper but I still end up buy another lower and building complete rifles. Dan |
| BEST advice I EVER received from an ARFCOMMER was to keep my butt out of general discussion......here in the hometown thread everyone is pretty good and later back, even technical sections are fine......general discussion is so full of asshatery I don't even read threads at all anymore. |
