Hi all, I have been reading the posts on this site, and was finally able to register. Been in OR for about a year, and the place we shoot is about to be turned into some kind of a park. I have been looking for a place to shoot somewhere around Mcminnville. I have seen a sign on 99 going into Dundee, that says "Gun Club". Does anyone know anything about this place? I have not been able to find out anything about it. Or does anyone in the area know a good spot to shoot around Mcminnville? Thanks |
Have you ever heard of a place called Vietnam? |
You're out of your element camo_ken! |
| On a serious note, not having ever shot PR or SS, unlike camo-ken who shoots a "Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range" I shoot a bone stock Colt A2. Not sure I could even be competive in PR. But I might give it a try for the fun of it. Do they have a class for "vintage" rifles? And Ken, until you get a rifle with a carry handle, you are out of your element talking about Vietnam. I mean, THIS LINE YOU DO NOT CROSS!! AM I RIGHT? |
I started shooting P/R with a A2 and still do. I have Added an ACOG to it though. P/R aint about "winning" (for most people) its about trying things out havin' fun and just shootin' the shit with like minded people. There are alot of people who have shot P/R with AK's and SKS's and such. An A2 is a good start. IBCHMTNGC (In before Cape Hunter Makes the New Guy Cry) ![]() Mark. |
It's not that much of a phased plasma, and the carry handle just gets in the way. These guys are just jealous, Governator and Sobchak only like them Vietnam era rifles cuz they cant let go of the past |
What he said. Come out and work onyour individual skills. I' do ok at those matches but I'm not hyper competitive about it... I think it took me 4 or 5 years to even break into the top 10. I'm shooting a $750 kit gun. You don't need gucci gear, you just need practice. ;) bring what you got and do your best to have fun. |

First - welcome!! Next -- the sign you have seen on 99W (on your right, heading into Newberg from Mac) is a shotgun club as far as I know. The CVSC is actually on your LEFT as you go through Dundee (still heading towards Newberg). Follow the signs for Crabtree Park - the range is right at the far end of the park/picnic area there - its gated, and you need a key to get in -- ask here, one of us with a membership will be glad to show you around. |

Thanks for all the replies, I will give PR a try, sounds like a blast. And as for you camo-ken, telling me I am stuck in the past. With 2000 years of wonderful tradition from Moses to Sandy Koufax, YOUR DAMM RIGHT I'M STUCK IN THE PAST!!!! Anyway, thanks again everyone, look forward to getting out and giving PR a try with you all. Last weekend I picked up a Rock River lower and I am building a XM-177 clone with it. I think I will use that for PR. |
| Phillips right about the road sign,I went there 15 years ago to shoot a 12 gauge at the end of my hunter safety course. The Crabtree club is kind of cool but you are limited to 100 yrds. I live in Lafayette and find that Tri County in Sherwood is close enough. Tri county has a lot more to offer at their facility but also a lot of bullshit politics. |

Lazarae, Have you ever dealt with the guy who has the 2nd hand store with the guns, there in Lafayette? I can't remember the name of the place. I stopped in there a couple of weeks ago, he had what looked to be a Winchester Model 12 Riot Gun. I could never get his attention to get him to show it to me. And I didn't have all day to hang around, had my son with me, and he was getting antsy. His prices seem a little on the high side, but I have a thing for Model 12 Winchesters. |
Do NOT worry about being competitive.....it's about having FUN, while honing your skills. We ALL sucked the first time out, well, except Peta....( BASTARD!!!) I have been doing it going on 6 years, and I have yet to break into the top 10...someday maybe. I was browsing some of my pics after thinking about that statement.....just to show you don't need fancy doo-dads... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Went from an A2 carbine to an AK, to a A1 20", which I re-barreled to a 11.5+5.5" I did however succumb to peer pressure..... ![]() My current ride... |

PR rocks and is a great place to test your skills, equipment and meet a bunch of great like minded people. Bring what you have and do it. Don't worry about what you are wearing, what you carry or what caliber it is. It's better to go and say you did it, then to sit around and make excuses. ( I say that knowing it will be a loooooooong while before I can make another one)
