So the leading threads in this forum are a rediculous smoking ban, more outragious taxiation, and a friendly reminder of less than clear/reasonable gun laws in iowa. oh yah, its also been snowing all fucking day. Whats next? |
|
well let's see... we've covered the basic things iowa likes to fuck us on, so maybe we should move forward to the next level of ultra liberalism 101... i can see in our future a taxpayer funded UPS truck (pink of course, not brown) that will be school dispatched to your home to perform abortions on children 12 and up while a policeman subdues mom and dad (you know, the boot in the back of your neck kind of thing). all this while keeping an aethist preacher in the passenger seat to perform gay marriages on the side. hitting two birds with one stone like that will appease some of the spineless republicans and they'll think that part of the legislation was a victory in terms of spending... ![]() that would just about cinch it for me... i'm tempted to leave for WY some days. but then again, i like it here. i want my kids to like it here. i'd rather take my state back, than allow these fools to run it. i sincerely hope all you folks on this forum are as loud with your elected officials as you are in this venue. if you're not, you need to have a nice cup of shut-the-hell-up with your breakfast burrito. a person that isn't willing to voice their concerns to the folks we put in office, but tickled shitless to mouth about it in the coffee shop or the bar are genuinely part of the problem and not the solution. otherwise, i say we mobilize and make some noise. time to start hitting the town hall meetings and get our poop in a group. |
I couldn't take it in Iowa any more, so I moved to Texas. That said, if you can get rid of some of the wussie Democrats and RINOs up there, you could make things better. In the past few years we've had significant improvements in our laws down here... We got a castle law, no permit needed for CCW in our vehicles, etc. We've got a Republican controlled legislature and Governor, and even a lot of the Dems around here aren't anti-gun. If you want to change things up there, that is what you are going to need. Unfortunately you can't do much about winter... Which was the other reason I moved. |
don't count out global warming... ![]() the MO/IA state line will feel like the equator according to al. thank goodness he made the net so you and i could visit here in cyberspace. |
That's some funny shit about Al! (Oh, yeah - I'm stealing your entire first post for my signature - it's a riot!) |
go right ahead. a 50/50 blend of humor and outrage seems to be my specialty... |

+1 septic. We are over taxed and over regulated on vitrtually everything! The Govt. seems intent on preventing people from harming themselves or others. What happened to people being responsible for themselves. If I want to smoke I will. If a restaurant or bar owner wants a non-smoking establishment, he/she should be able to make that decision, not have someone make it for them. If you don't want to go into a smokey bar, don't!! People are using less gas, so Govt. wants to raise the gas tax? Where is the common sense? Lower the price of gas, we will drive more, and Govt. gets it tax. People should be able to carry a firearm. If the guy robbing the conveinance store thought the customers had guns and may shoot, he probably would not rob it. Take away all the Govt. bullshit programs that benefit no one, quit overregulating every aspect of our lives and then our taxes should be able to be lowered. I lose over 50% of my paycheck to taxes, ins. and child support. I sometimes struggle to get by, but I don.t buy it if I aint got the cash. It would be nice at least if the overtime wasnt taxed like it is. Just my turn to vent, sorry if I ramble. |
| Well, I finally got to talk with my senator, and specifically requested an answer as to why he voted yes for the smoking ban. I didn't like the answer, but I understood it. Him being forced to play the politics game. I did sense a little bit a uneasyness when I asked him why he just pushed Iowa a little more toward a socialist/communistic gov. style. |
No offence TA (and I am not just picking on you), but why "understand" it and why should we allow it???? It is the "politics game" that cost us a chance at "shall issue" this year. If your senator was against something he should represent his constituents and vote for their wishes...not the party leaders. PS - Can ya all tell I am mad about the weasels in Des Moines and how the "Shall Issue" vote went down yet?? |
I agree, to me, if the gov't has enough $$, fed. or state to give away, foreign aid for example, then they are taking too damn much! They want to say that it represents the American people in general, thats fine, let those people donate directly, and those of us who don't shouldn't have to. What was that thing that has a statement about "taxation without representation"? |
