Heard the same from a buddy today, trying to buy a rifle.  Allow me to adjust my tinfoil hat and comment on what an amazing coincidence this is...

I went in to Cheyenne on Saturday to use up a PTPP before it expires.  They faxed in my NICS around noon-ish.  It still has not come back.
I am getting worried.  I already paid for the M9A1 in full.  I'll be screwed if my PTPP expires and I have to re-apply and wait 30 days.
I would hope they go by the NICS request date, not the NICS approval date, but who knows.

At a shop yesterday I was told the NICS is just getting backed up for two reasons: 1) Guns are selling like never before 2) apparently they are short staffed right now for some reason

They said everything was getting approved but it was just taking a while.
