Since the new law starts on Tuesday, July 1, I went and purchased a Jabra Bluetooth hands-free headset. Now I too can look like an important jerk with lots of people to call. So, has/does everyone have theirhads-free headset bought or picked out yet? |
I'll use the speakerphone option built in to my existing cell. I refuse to get the nuclear cockroach...for now. |
Same here. The only one who ever calls me on my cell is my wife anyways -- now I have a valid excuse not to answer
|
+1 to Phil. The law does not apply to hams using the 2 meter band-- from which I can access my club repeater and the land-line link. So there. ETA: 73 to my brethren-- I put my 2m rig back into my truck. Haven't heard any of y'all yet, but I'm working 147.380 from 4:30 to 5:00 or so every afternoon-- cut over and say Hi. Working toward my General again, too. |
I only use mine when I'm in the car, too. I take it off when I get out, unless it's just a short stop. Minimizes the borg look/feel. |
| Maybe it's just me, but, doesn't it seem a little weird when you have people walk by, talking to someone you can't see? It's like being in downtown Portland. Especially when the that borg-beetle is sucking out their brain from the other side, where you can't see it. In the year 2525......(c'mon, sing along now...) |
Dude... Your nerd is showing. You shouldn't even know the difference! |
What's worse is having a conversation with someone and then they start saying all kinds of crazy shit not related to the subject at hand. Then you realize their phone rang and they are no longer paying attention to you |
|
I'm so popular that I cancelled my cell service over 4years ago, haven't missed it at all. (and yes I leave my old phone in my vehicle in case I need to call 911 in the event of a 'real' emergency) preemptive yes- one of these days I'll get a ham radio / license. |
+1 to this, I tried those Ear things and they suck, they don't stay on right, and they look gay, I will use Speakerphone option in the cars that don't have bluetooth, and My BMW's in car bluetooth communication system when driving it....I dont even have to touch a button on the phone or the radio to turn it down |
Ain't that the truth....

Some people don't realize that the new law starts July 1. I was driving up 3 the other day to Silverdale and this guy pulls up next to me (I was ont he phone with my lady) and he starts waving at me and stuff - it sorta looked like he wanted me to roll my window down, so I told her this guy wants to talk to me, and set the phone down and started to roll my window down. He pulls ahead of me (I'm at 60, the speed limit with the cruise on), pulls in front of me and keeps going! So I pick up the phone and resume my conversation, and he gets off at the next exit, his window down and his arm out the window waving at me like he's pissedor something! Honestly, he was more of a hazard on the road with watching me on the phone than I was, driving the speed limit, focused on the road (until he waved) and talking on the phone. Just goes to show you that some people out there think they should be the "watchers and enforcers" Ah well. It takes all kinds, as my mom would say. |
Texting is more dangerous than talking on the phone. ![]() Politicians are stupid! Maybe the stupid congresswoman who ran the STOP sign while talking on HER phone should get a "Driving while distracted ticket" as that is their purpose, not impose BS laws on us cuz she is too stupid to multitask
|
Maybe, but it's harder for them to see my thumb moving in my lap, than it is to see me holding something to my ear. |
i know, I just hope my blackberry pearl with the speakerphone feature does not die out! |
|
but it gives them a reason to look for something else to pull you over for. Ihate the darn things as much as anyone else.....but got one.....dont work so well in a topless Land Cruiser in dec I got into a huge argument with the tard at Radio Shack, he said the law(cell not text) started in Jan...I said no it doesnt, next day I droped off a copy of the law to him........doh! I have yet to grasp the reason behind texting.....
|
It is for when you dont want to call the person/ or talk to them/ or trying to avoid them. |
+1 I suppose it has it's special purpose for some, but I havn't found it yet. |
|
but texting cost a fee per text doesnt it? or a package that includes it? one day my phone kept saying I had a message ,I checked my VM and nothing........then found someone had texted me.....took me 5 min(with my meat claws) to type in a reply that said "I dont text, call me"
|
"I'm just translating "Taming of The Shrew" into German" ![]() ![]() ![]()
|
Then I will get the Phone company records that show that no call was made at the time of the stop and that I was in fact just using the phone to scratch an itch. (not mentioning the fact the phone was brought to the ear to gauge the copper's mental aptitude).. then the Little f*cker can go make up his b*llsh*t on some one else
|
It doesn't matter if you were talking or not, you just have to hold it up to your ear to be nailed.
|
Ah, well you could one up it by getting one of the toy phones and doing, after all it is NOT a wireless communications device. ...or a bar of soup. ETA: Next, they will probably pull you over for looking at them wrong
|

Working toward my General again, too.
Maybe a 3rd on a necklace or something,

or the radio to turn it down
Ain't that the truth....
