| I went to the Islip range today and brought my shotgun and my ar-15. I was not aloud to use my ammo I had to buy there ammo for both guns. I had some wolf .223 HP but hey said they are AP which is illegal in NY. Anybody ever had a problem there? |
| I've been to LISC, and I must say, they're very pro-cop, but they do treat normal average Joe like crap. Along with many other gun store clerk/owner. i understand that this is a dying business, because of the gun-law and insurance are getting harder and harder, but you should always treat your customers with respect rather they're a LEO or not. I've gotten plenty of cold shoulders until I ID myself. As for the AP ammo. The M855 round is technically AP rounds - please don't argue with me, because unless you've been there and done that, please don't. If a range is anal about not allowing you to shoot m855 rounds, fine, it's their range, their rules. At least LISC allow you to shoot JHP/soft points/xm193, as to Nassau county indoor range only allow soft point for high-power rifles. |

The reason the magnet stuck to it was because it has a bi-metal jacket. |

If you are refering to the Nassau county Mitcheld field, they allow soft point AND Hollow point when shooting an AR 15. unless they changed their rules in the last couple of months. |

LISC has gone down the tube. Every time i go there it gets worse and worse. Last time I was there they treated me like crap. Also, the place was flooded and the lights were broken. The staff is not friendly at all. Its almost like they don't want to be bothered even though your giving them money. I think im going to be sticking with mitchell field from now on. They are always nice and never give me problems.
Last week I went there and they said the bullets i have shot for months with there are no longer allowed. So im pretty much done with them at this point. Mitchell field is a much nicer experience and after a while you dont really care about only being able to load 5 rounds at a time. |
| Yea, I had one bad experience at LISC too. For the most part, they've been very very friendly every time I go. Lately, the one guy I always see has begun to recognize my face, and now he's great to talk to. But a while bacl I talked to someone (different employee) who gave me a super arrogant attitude (and he was wrong), which made me want to go elsewhere. But it's close and convenient, and haven't had any issues since. |

You know, people come up with all these rules and nowhere do i see them posted...I looked last time I was there...unless I'm stupid and blind. No one has ever said anything about shooting full mags...is there a rule book for this range somewhere? |
|
There are so many rules posted at Mitchell one would lose his visual acuity prior to shooting to read them all. (Of course that
does leave me the option of reading them as I leave.) I have heard about the "no more than 5" rule. My mags are loaded before I get there, and load them as though I am going to Calverton. Don't rapidly fire more than 4 or 5 from your Beretta or Glock, and no one bothers you. (Do the same from a rifle and they might.) they definitely watch their cc cameras there, AS THEY SHOULD. I got scolded for taking a swig of water a couple of years ago, and they came right in without my going to the office when a line came off the target pull pulley last month. Rather they know whats going on and spy on us all then letting some bozo get unsafe. |
|
I'll try not to scratch my ass on the firing line any more...
That means they see me go loaded CC ninja on my way out and don't say anything...theres a sign somewhere that says "no loaded firearms in the lobby area" or beyond some door...I have no idea...I don't screw around, I get my FD discount and I don't bother anyone...no one has ever given me any trouble for anything there, actually met a nice retired LEO...good place... |

At least LISC allow you to shoot JHP/soft points/xm193, as to Nassau county indoor range only allow soft point for high-power rifles. The Belgian designed 62gr SS109 Bullet loaded on top of 26.1gr of WC 844 (commerically H-335) which is referred to as M855 Ball , has never been nor ever will be "technically AP rounds". Per the mil specs: TM 43-001-27, I quote, "The cartridge is intended for use against personnel and unarmored targets". It does have a steel core "penetrator", but that is to provide greater penetration than M193 Ball. 5.56x45mm AP ammo is black tipped and is called M995 and it is usally belted for use in the M249 SAW. M995 has a Tungsten Carbide Penetrator which has a true AP bullet/application. As far as indoor ranges not allow M855, sure, but any 5.56/.223 (aside from really light varmint bullets or frangibles) will tear the hell outta a bullet stop in an indoor range. Its not all about the bullets per say, its about the velocity and the bullet design. Example: at distances inside 75yards, M193 will tear up a concrete backstop nearly the same as M855. To allow one and not the other is rather illogical as both would really destroy the bullet stops much more rapidly as compared to slower projectiles. But I agree, its the owners rules, "you" can choose not to go there or adhere to the rules... |

Just to bullshit: LISC uses railroad ties for the three posts that you can shoot rifles. I believe its two railroad ties thick.
As far as Mitchell field there are rules posted everywhere. I think the way i found out about the 5 round thing is whenever i go to a new range i ask the person at the desk are there any rules i should know about before a shoot. They told me about the 5 rd limit then. The people there are really helpful and kind. Can you shoot hollow point .223 at mitchell field or just soft point? |
| I was at Mitchell Field Tuesday night, and I was shooting Wolf 75gr HP. You can shoot HP or SP at Mitchell, but honestly, once you start shooting there really isnt any watching to make sure you're not shooting FMJ rounds. I could have shot all the FMJ's I had with me and no one would have known better, but the Wolf is so much cheaper it wasn't worth wasting the good stuff... |
i went to Mitchell last week. the guy at the desk asked me what i was going to shoot i told him my glock and my rem 700 he asked to see my rifle ammo. i pulled out a box of remington .223 45 GR JHP , he looked at it and said ok and that was it. first time they ask me that.
