Morning guys:
Its been made painfully clear to me recently that I'm about to lose my job. Over the last 3 or so years, I've been laid off, bought out, company closure, etc. I have 6 years administrative experience in the trucking/transportation industry (No CDL), and 2 years real estate investment/property management experience. I took my current job out of desperation. Living on Unemployment is unacceptable to me. Cruising job boards on a daily basis has revealed the fact that I already know: its tough out there. If anyone might have any leads, please IM me or reply here. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving! Erick |

After a tough job search, I know what your about to go through. All I can say is keep focusing on what you want to do, by doing targeted google searches. There are many specific job boards out there, such as Agriculture boards, environmental boards, and many others.
Also, there is indianacareerconnect.com that has most of the jobs available in indiana. Good Luck. I spent a couple hours every day searching and applying to jobs and it took several months to get one. |

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Started current job in October after being laid off in July due to company closure....I'm enjoying my PAID days off till Monday wondering just how much longer this job will last. Took a $15,000 paycut when I took this job and I have at least 5 times the responsibility! This job is just totally sucking the life out of me. WorkOne got me this job and told me if I turned it down, as part of my unemployment compensation agreement, that I would have to pay back all unemployment I received, so I really didn't have much choice. Thank God for my savings account, which is dwindling quickly even though I've cut out every possible expense (including range trips which is really depressing).
Somethings gotta give! Thanks for your words of encouragement. Erick |
| With the years of experience you have in the trucking/transportation industry, I would think Indiana would be the place to be. You might take a look at celadon trucking.com. Seems like they have been looking for all types of employees over the last year or two. I'm looking preemptively for new employment myself. Good luck with your search. |

With the way the regulations have changed recently, customers still demand their freight be delivered on schedule, regardless. Sometimes its just not possible. You do everything in your power to make it happen, but sometimes it just doesn't, and its frustrating to get the 3rd degree from your boss when you told him in the beginning that it wasn't going to happen. I just don't enjoy the industry (though I think driver recruiting would be fun) as much as I used to, but with 6 years industry experience, I can't really jump into anything else without a degree in that field, or related experience, so I'm fucked coming and going. Prior to July, when I was a Terminal Manager, the company absolutely loved me-I received praise for everything I did! But a driver tested positive for cocaine, and the customer pulled the contract and we all lost our jobs. Very frustrating. Its a Federal regulation that truck drivers get randomly chosen for drug use. It blows my mind that he actually thought he could escape it. It does, however, explain some of the occurrences, though, but legally I couldn't take any action because I didn't have proof. What's better, when I got the results and counseled him, he asked if he was going to get fired for this. |

WHOOP-WHOOP!!
Well, I finally got the job with Roehl Transport as a Fleet Manager! I was offered the job on New Year's Eve!!!! What a great start to the year!!! I was very impressed with their facility in Gary, IN. They really thought of everything! Newer equipment in their fleet, driver accommodations at their Gary facility...a huge driver lounge with several big screen TVs and lots of comfy sofas with private sleeping rooms, workout facility, computer rooms w/internet access... For those of you on here that are truck drivers, you know how much it sucks (as I do) to have to sleep in a truck at a truck stop...and being away from home for sometimes weeks at a time. This facility, and company as a whole appears very driver centered. When I was at the interview, I got a chance to talk to several drivers, who all seemed to be happy with the Company. That is such a welcome change from the jobs I've had in the trucking industry over the last 6 years. At the interview, they over-emphasized safety, and putting the driver first. Their BASICs are also representative of their stance on safety...with a majority of their numbers being 30% or less, its clear they put a high value on driver safety, which is a marked difference from most companies I've interviewed at recently. I thought I'd never get out of KLLM! My base salary represents a $7,000 increase over my salary at KLLM. It will allow me some much needed breathing room, and to get caught up on bills that I got behind on during my brief, 3 month stay at KLLM. Oh...how good it feels! Erick |
