can anyone tell me about LA Air Force base? Especially in a security forces stand point? I'm thinking about trying to get orders there. If it does happen what would happen to my guns? I read the tacked post about it but I don't really understand. Can I bring them? Do I have to modify them? Do I have to do anything special in order to bring them? Any info you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!

Born and raised in the LA area and have never heard of this Air Force Base.  Where is it?

LA AFB is located in El Segundo, just off the 405 freeway.  It was part of the Space command years ago, but since they reorganized things, I don't what command it's in.  If you're married, the USAF has several housing areas located in San Pedro.  And, they are in pretty fine areas.  Close to the beach and with some fine ocean views.

As to your questions on firearms, it's my understanding that you must follow California laws.  I remember there was something about storing firearms in the base armory and that has some effect on what was allowed.  Best thing to do is give the base info office a call and ask.

All in all, the LA AFB is a pretty good assignment.  Cost of living is a bit higher in SoCal than some states, but you can't beat the weather.  There are also a couple of remote sites, located on the Palos Verdes Penninsula.  I'm pretty sure these are staffed by folks assigned to LA AFB.  If so, they sit on top of the penninsula and have a fantastic views of the LA basin.  I call them remote sites, but they are actually much closer to the family housing I mentioned.

If you've got any questions about the area in general, I can help.  I live about 5 minutes from the housing, and maybe 15 from the remote sites.  By the was, the base itself isn't like most, no runways, all high tech / secret stuff.  They deal with the local aerospace industry quite a bit.

I'm going to keep an eye on it.

LAFB has ONE exit sign, tiny, as you're heading 405S towards LAX ... I think. It might be northbound, it's been a while. But it's certainly dinky.

Let me know how the billet is.  It's a possibility for my wife, but I despise anything close to that accursed freeway.

If you get written permission from your Commanding Officer you can bring your rifles here - but not the normal capacity magazines.

If you do not get your CO's written permission, and fill out the military assault weapon's permit you can bring most but not weapons here - once modified to not detach the magazine without a tool. The modification costs about $40 and takes minutes to do and seconds to un-do.

Has to be the base commander not your CO. I know it doesn't even make sense.

The 'Bullet Button' costs about $15. The AK adapters run about $20-25. Not quite that bad.
OP; for your hi-cap mags; store them out of state or disassemble them and keep them as such. They are legal to have not assembled. You can also get magazine blocks to limit them to 10 rounds.
Edwards AFB is there, not too far away. It's huge, and busy. If you are set on SoCal, there are lots of opportunities there for you.
