I mailed in my application for a conceal handgun permit around June 10th.  At the time, the LSP site said the wait period was 45-90 days.

After anxiously waiting the 90 days... then, 100 days... I decided to call the "handgun permit unit" to see if the turn around time was still 90 days.  The person on the phone stated the current processing time is 6 MONTHS!  I told her that I sent my application in June and she responded, "it's probably in the system, but we're out of office supplies, so we can't print any cards for another week or two."

Also... I heard they are rejecting a LOT of them because the fingerprints are smudged, too light, etc.  They rejected my dad's for that reason.  That causes another 45 day delay.

Is it like this everywhere... or just Louisiana?

My dad resent his fingerprint card back on 8/6... he's still waiting.  The deputy that took my dad's prints the second time said the state rejects a LOT of them.  He sent his original application in MARCH.  This is ridiculous.

I just received an email from the state saying the current turn around time is 120 BUSINESS days.  They're taking so long supposedly because they're getting a lot more apps... which means a lot more money.  I guess it just makes too much sense to hire a couple more people.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

You've got to be kidding.  I'm moving to AL.

That's what LA was like not too long ago.  But the number of apps has increased significantly... but I'm willing to bet the number of employees has not.

Well in AL once you get it, every year it takes about 3-4 days to renew it, depends on how long the mail takes.  this year I received the new permit in the mail before they even cashed my check.  AL is a may issue state and permit is only good for one year.

Also back in august I was on travel and going through Seattle WA, and was there for about a week.  I submitted an application as an non-state residence, and I got it in the mail in about 2-3 weeks.  Probably helped that I used to have a residence license from WA years ago :-).  WA does take fingerprints and is a shall issue state, and non residence can apply but only in person.  Permit is good for 5 years, but it added 1-2 more states over what the AL permit allows.

I am basically saying once you are in "their" system, the re-newal times are pretty quick.

I'm thinking about shopping around next time... FL non-resident license is good for 7 years and is recognized in LA.  With my luck, as soon as I received it, LA would stop honoring FL non-res permits.

That figures.  Instead of correcting the problem with the LA permit process... go after those that found an easier way to legally carry.  Which will only increase the amount of permits LA has to do... which means even longer "processing" time.

I KNEW that Louisiana would find a way to drag ass, fuck around, and eventually, fuck up the entire process.

Thats why I went with a Florida one instead.   WAYY less paperwork, faster process time. less overall BS

Sad that you cant count on your home state to do shit right.

+1  10-15mins and $20.  No fingerprints, no B.S.  Open carry is legal. Gun laws are good in AL except for the no SBS or SBRs but were're working on it best we can with the idiots we have in Montgomery.  And no firearms allowed within a certain area around a public demonstration or protest. I'm sure it goes back to the civil rights days.

Yep, had my permit for years. Fill out the card with the info, submit it with a pic of yourself and boom there it is. Used to be $10. may have increased to $15 as I recall. i believe the cost is dictated by the county sheriff. I renew mine in November.  can do so by mail or drop by the sheriff's office with my $$ and certify I have not been convicted of any crimes and there I'm is renewed.

Yep... anything beyond 30 days is wrong in my opinion... but I'd still be okay with 60.  But after being told 90 days and still waiting almost 110 days later... that's messed up.

what i hate about the LA permits is the extra fee they tack on for those of us who haven't lived here for 10 years or whatever the requirement is.

LOL - dang, I didn't read the rules!

I didn't carry until the following night when I took the family out to eat.  I try to avoid Wal-Mart, but it looks like I need to plan a trip there.

Its pretty much SOP in these parts.

I dont know about your area, but im pretty sure that your CCW isnt actually legit UNTIL you complete the WMW. Its in the rulebook, somewhere toward the back.
