Pete - you may want to hold off to see if this bill passes the General Assembly: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?051+sum+HB1978 HB 1978 Transfer and possession of machine guns. Patron: William R. Janis Summary as introduced: Transfer and possession of machine guns. Amends the Uniform Machine Gun Act to require that when certification of a chief law-enforcement officer is required by federal law for transfer of a firearm, as defined in the National Firearms Act, such certification must be provided within 15 days if the applicant is not prohibited from receiving the firearm. The bill also removes the presumption that a possession of a machine gun is for an offensive or aggressive purpose if not on the possessor's residence or business property, or if empty or loaded shells for the machine gun are found in the immediate vicinity. Finally, the bill allows an owner to keep a copy of the registration certificate for the machine gun available for inspection, instead of just the original certificate. |
Damn! Now that would be cool. Of course my CLEO does sign offs, but it would be nice for those people in other counties. |

If that doesn't work out, look at the State Corporation Commission website. It is very easy to find the form to create a LLC with the instructions on the back of the form. I have a sense that LLC and other corporate transfers are faster, just because there is less to have to check up on. Makes sense, but I can't prove it. |

I once looked at getting a LLC but since I can get signatures I didn't want to pay the yearly 100 dollar fee. Here is the site with info and the form for filing. Here I believe you want LLC-1011 |
Dude if you give her my address I'm gonna hurt you! Ask 9x19 she claims that I can shoot ! |
Your idle threats mean nothing after she whoops me!
|
Bring her on! ![]() Crap! Qhat was I tinking? She will whoop me good

Wondering what are the advantages to creating a LLC? |
For a private individual to purchase controlled items like machine guns you have to get your local police chief to sign off saying that you are a law abiding person. No problem unless your local chief thinks that private individuals "don't need machine guns" and refuses to sign off on them no matter how law abiding you are. Corporations can purchase machine guns and don't have to get the LE signature. An LLC is easier and cheaper to set up than a formal corporation but an LLC can still purchase a MG without LE sign off. |
But this obviously doesn't bypass any paperwork req'd by the ATF, correct.? |
Doesn't bypass the ATF paperwork and approvals, but it does bypass the CLEO sign off which is often the most difficult hurdle. For example, Prince William County had a guy who had no problem signing off on machine guns but thought that civilians shouldn't be allowed to have silencers. I understand that he has now been educated on the matter, but if he'd been hard-headed about it then a corporation would have been the only way for me to legally get a silencer. |
You rang? They did get ya good with the link to Viagra, ya old fart See, if ya didnt say anything you would've been good to go! But Nooooo, you just had to mention my name. Geez you really are a glutton for punishment

Who told you this? I have a friend that just dropped off two Form 1s to make two SBRs and asked about this and they said that is was just a rumor. |
I spoke with Lt. DeRamus(he handles all NFA stuff) on 2 different occassions inquiring about my sign offs. He told me it is the sherriff's personal policy not to sign off on more than 2 forms period. If he is pulling my chain I will be pissed. I am going to try and speak with the sherriff this week. Sentineldfa |
Definately keep us informed about it. I plan on turning in a form 1 very soon and 3 form 4s. |

Bad news from the latest VCDL alert - HB1917 was killed 2-10 by a Senate committee last night. Obenshain and Cuccinelli supported it. The bill's sponsor, Delegate Janis, is up for re-election this fall. I plan on sending him a campaign contribution and a thank-you note. We really need to support legislators who don't just vote the right way, but who are willing to introduce bills favorable to gun owners. |
