I like to refill the toner cartridge on my laser printer because I can do it for about 1/10th the cost of a new cartridge.

I can usually do this one time per cartridge. If I try to refill the same cartridge two or more times the printer refuses to operate.

What am I doing wrong if anything? I seriously doubt the cartridge is worn out at this point.

This is a Brother HQ1200 if that matters.

Recycled cartridges as well as recycled paper suck, I have had the same problem and found buying new stuff was the easiest solution.

Are you sure about the model no.?  I googled it and can't find a HQ 1200 but models that print in HQ 1200 format.  I have used discount companies like  abcinck.com for my inkjet cartridges.  No doubt if your a cheap skate refilling cartridges you already know about them.
