What are the notification requirements for West Virginia and Virginia?  I am going to be traveling through and have an Ohio CHL.  Are there any special transportation requirements?

Thanks in advance!

I just notify out of courtesy no matter what just to cover my butt.  That way, no question and no chance of missing it when you need to do it.

In Virginia, notification is not required. Some of us suggest it, and some say its none of the cops business. YMMV.

Correct that notification is not required in Virginia.  That said, if there is any chance the LEO might discover the gun later (e.g. see it while you are reaching for your wallet to get your license), then I would notify them up front and ask them what they want you to do.  A little courtesy in this regard can go a long way.  I have been on both sides of such encounters, and it always works out better when the citizen notifies the officer.

Also, as of a year ago you carry in a closed container (including glove box or center console) in your vehicle without a permit.
