I'm planning on going to my first range in Washington tomorrow. As of right now my first choice is Fort Lewis being that it's like $5. I plan on shooting Pistols, AR's, and a 243. Does anyone have any experience with Fort Lewis that they can share with me? Something like:
It's great because.... It sucks because.... Go to ***different*** range because.... The wife and I just want to have fun and have no real experience in the area. I live in the Kent so if you make a suggestion please keep it within a 45 minute drive. Thanks in advance for the help. |

I don't have any experience with the Ft. Lewis range so I can't say anything good or bad about it. You might consider the Cascade Rifle & Pistol Club in Ravensdale. It's probably much closer for you. They open to the public two days a month (they're working on expanding that in the future) and will be open on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th this month. You might consider joining, too. Nice range, nice people. http://www.cascaderifleandpistol.org/ |

Cascade is a much nicer range, but they are getting to be a little "mother hen"-ish |

I go to the Issaquah Sportsman's Club in, of all places, Issaquah. I currently live in Covington so I just tool up Hwy 18 and down I-90. It usually takes me about 30mins to get there. It is $10 for normies, and $5 with .mil ID. I've been going there for a long time and the peeps there are great, if not a bit cantankerous.
The Ft. Lewis range is OK, but it is a hassle to get firearms on post since they have to all be registered with the Post Provost... -RH |
| I go to the Fort Lewis MWR range fairly often because I'm active duty. Not sure what the rules are for those not in the military. Maybe beeing retired is good enough. I know I'm allowed to bring one "guest". Its pretty good range. You can shoot out to 300m I believe. I'd get there early though. Believe they open at 1000. Like mr fister said its no problem getting to this range with your weapons. Its outside of east gate. |

There is always Tacoma Sportsman Club in Puyallup. $10 shoot Rifle and Pistol all day. They have mixed reviews but I have never had an issue there. Seems to be more Fudd gunners than EBR's. No rapid fire and only ten rounds in the mag at a time. Although I have never been hassled for that. Both are covered. Out to 200yds on the rifle range.

It's good enough. |

I really like the Tac Sportsmans Club. They have a good set up and its not that expensive. The only issue is when it gets crowded you have to wait for a slot to shoot, but its definitely worth the drive
If your looking for a good place in Kent to shoot there's also Champion Arms. They're right across the street from the Great Wall shopping mall. Its an indoor range so its mostly meant for pistols, but they do allow AR-15s, provided you use their frangible ammo. I used to go there all the time cause it's close and doesn't cost too much (about $15 for range fee) plus you can rent pistols, too. Just thought I would add my own two cents. |
