Since ATT now controls SBC, who is a good alternative? Or I should ask who to stay away from? |
I think it's the other way around. SBC purchased AT+T.The only changes I've seen are cosmetic(new logos on trucks, shirts, and hardhats, etc). There haven't been any policy changes as far as customer services are concerned. |

For all inclusive phone service, incl long distance to Canada nothing beats Sunrocket $199 a year flat rate is not bad either. |

Depends on what you are looking for. If it's for business? Nobody can beat Logix, hands down. Good custoemr service and not a fracking menu system when you call customer support (a live body picks up the phone!) For home? I suggest Vonage, if you can get High speed internet (other than DSL). Too bad DSL isn't offered in TX in an unbound package (meaning you don't have to keep a telephone number to receive DSL). And as has been said, AT&T was consumed into the monster known as SBC. ETA: Clarity and spelling |
From SBC website:
sbc.merger-news.com/ SBC for years bitched that the competition had stripped them of money, and that the competition laws forced them to lease lines at a loss. But they've managed to buy AT&T, Dish Network, and Pacific Bell without batting an eye.

Its called leveraged buyout, stock swap and creative financing. That is why I love the market so much. Trying to structure one of these things is mindblowing. |

Interesting. When GTE and Atlantic Bell merged (hostile takeover to us old GTE folks) the FTC told the new company they could not use GTE or Bell in the name so they chose Verizon. Wonder why the same didn't apply here? At this rate it won't be long before there is only One. Please let me get my 30 in before that happens. |
I would second that I use Vonage with Time Warner cable modem (it is cheaper than the TW phone service) has been working pretty well. |
