Does anyone know of a gun range near Denver (or within about 60) miles that offers up to 1k shooting??  Someone told me there's a place around here that has a 1k range and they have gongs set up at various distances.

I'm looking to take my future father in law out with my .308's and have a little fun.  He hasn't shot a firearm in a very, very long time.  I figured we'd go out and have a little fun.  Thanks for the help guys.  BTW, I looked up the range list on the HTF and found some ranges, just doesn't say if they have gongs set up or not.

I don't know about a 1K range. I use the national forest. Take a laser range finder and set up whatever you want. I go to Park County.

Pistol

The pistol range has 30 targets at 50 yards and 30 turning targets at 25 yards.  The firing line is covered and paved.  Member activity determines the number of tournaments and clinics scheduled each year.  The pistol range is also currently used by cowboy action shooters.

Smallbore Rifle

The smallbore range has 30 covered and paved firing points at 50 and 100 yards.  There are normally four or five tournaments each summer.  Plans are underway to begin a junior NRA program.  Two Boy Scout troops also use the range.

Schuetzen Rifle

The Schuetzen range has 30 covered and paved firing points at 100 and 200 yards with concrete and steel benches for all points.  Schuetzen shooting is growing in popularity and several rifle or pistol matches are held each season.

Sporting Clays

A ten position sporting clays field was built in 1992 and improved in 1993.  Informal shoots will be held on the fourth Saturday each month from February through October.  (Squads usually start at 8:30 a.m).

Silhouette

The silhouette range is the newest addition to the rifle club.  It currently offers high power and smallbore shooting.  The high power range, with targets at 200, 300, 385 and 500 meters has two firing points at each distance.  The smallbore range has firing points at 40, 60, 77 and 100 meters.  The pistol silhouette range is completed and in operation.

High Power

The high power range has 21 numbered firing points on 6 firing lines.  The firing lines are placed at 200, 300, 600, 800, 900 and 1000 yards respectively.  At the 1000 yard line (actually 1005 yards) there are 21 bench rest tables.  There are also additional bench rest tables at 300 yards and at 600 yards for load development.  The target line is an underground concrete pit with 21 counterweighted target frames recessed into the pit which are raised and lowered through a roof hatch.

Action Pistol

A new action pistol range is currently in the planning/permitting stage on a forty acre site east of the silhouette range. Current plans are to have cowboy action shoots on the new range beginning in 2008.

All Ranges are being improved as needs dictate.

While it may be "far away", it's still only an hour drive from the house.  Unless anyone knows about a range that has steel targets at various ranges, this is where I'll probably end up going.  USMC are you a member out there or just know about the club??  Again, thanks for your help and ya'll stay safe.

I shoot sporting clays out there once a month with a few guys I know.  The range is clean hard to find if you dont know where it is.  This keeps the idiot kids and other rif raff out.  You have to know its there to find it.  I currently pony up the fee for the sporting clays and shoot the rifle range with another guy that is a member there when he is shooting (as his guest).  Financially that is my current best option.

I will be joining when my bank account allows for the fees required.  In addition to the yearly membership fees there is also a work bond which you can either go out and work a cleanup or improvement project or just pay a little more on your yearly membership.

I find the facilities worth it, the drive is only an hour from my house.  But on any given day you can never tell what the weather and wind conditions will be out there based on what is happening in Denver.  Clear and sunny at your house snowing at the range.  No wind at your house, lots at the range.

Gate is locked and you will get the combo with membership though in truth much of the time it is open

They also put on several CMP Garand matches each year.

Probably about the time Frontier gets off their asses and puts some piles of dirt past 300 yards at their south range...

I'm (well my family is) new to Colorado and I was just looking over the website for the CRCI range. It looks like a good option and think we could deal with the "commute" out there. Yeah it's way out of the way but like mentioned above it keep the rif-raf out for sure.

I'll be sure to check it out when home on vacation next.

Kac-sr15 Ben Lomond will be closer for you IF you are in the Springs area.  It is about 5 -7 miles north of Ramah off of Hwy 24 (about 40 minutes from Powers and 24 in Springs).

I am a new member at Ben Lomond.  I am hoping to try the long range rifle in the next couple of weeks.  Different members have told me it is out to 500 or 600 depending on the member.  the plan is to get it out to 1000 yards.

Hoser,
It looks like a nice range, just too far for me to travel right now.  Any chance you can talk to whoever does the clubs website and have them add the US Coast Guard (www.uscg.mil) to their "Support our Troops" link?  Quite irritating when the USCG doesn't get the respect they deserve.  Thanks...

[/end rant for now]
