Heading out for a weekender in San Antonio. Plan... 1) Stop and eat dinner at the Kreuz Market in Lockhart Friday evening. 2) Tour the Missions & the Alamo Saturday morning. 3) Swim Saturday afternoon. 4) Dinner on the river walk Saturday night. 5) Swim Sunday morning. 6) Stop and eat lunch at Southside Market in Elgin Sunday afternoon. Staying at the Crockett Hotel. Good/Bad idea? Any recommendations for dinner on the river walk? |
+1000 I spent almost 2 weeks in SA in 1997 and most nights were spent in Durty Nelly's. I had my first Guiness there and have loved it ever since! I have been back to SA many times since but my daughter has been with me so I haven't been able to go back. It's under the Hilton IIRC. |
You'll like the Crocket. |

Big Sapper, You my friend have great tastes. I think you made a great choice. I concur with the whole Dirty Nelly's deal. Awesome laid back fun. I would recommend Shilo's for lunch one day. It is an excellent German delicatessen, My sister sent me a jar of their most excellent mustard to me here in Iraq WOW I love that stuff! As to the dinner on the River Walk, you pay for the ambiance. Most of the restraunts down there have okay food and good service. I just think you should get a better meal for the money. With that said If you want Italian I recommend Michelina's. This is a shamelss plug as my sister works there as a greeter. Her name is Keli give her hell. For a great Steak head on over to St Pauls square and have a Ruth Cris experience. St Pauls is by the Rail station and is a short drive or Taxi ride from the River walk. Another option is with prior planning to have a dinner cruise on the river Very Romantic. As to the afore mentioned Dicks go there after dinner go for the beer. It is a rowdy place and caters to the younger crowd. I am an SA native Way to go SPURS |

Thanks for all tghe suggestions. I'll have my 13yo daughter along so we'll have to skip what sounds like a great place to hang out. The Italian place sounds good for dinner. And thanks for the suggestion of Shilo's. I'll definitely pencil them in for lunch on Saturday. Heading out in a few hours. Weeee!!!!! |

Big Sapper I'm sure she was blown out of the water. Thanks considering where I am right now. I am glad that you enjoyed Schilos. I make it apoint to hit it whenever I make it to SA. Casa Rio is a right nice place, It has a great atmosphere. Hey next time you hit the River Walk you need to stay at the La Mansion Del Rio. It is the Cats meow. I had a wonderful vacation weekend there. I would do it during Rodeo Weekend as most people in town for the Rodeo never stay down town. The rodeo is the 1st and 2nd weeks of FEB right before Houston. Once Again thanks for popping into see the sis. I am so glad you had a great time Peace Bro. ETA: Make sure you get a room with a balcony they are the best. To sit out there and watch life stroll by when you want a quiet minute |
