I'm looking for a good 1-4 optic. I plan on purchasing in the next month or two, and looking to spend in the neighborhood of 5-600. I've been scouring the boards and the reviews for a lot of the optics and I believe I've narrowed my choices to: Burris XTR, Leupold VX-R Patrol (or Zombie), Vortex Viper PST (or HS), Burris MTAC. I would like to look through the scopes and see how I like the reticles, clarity, etc.

I've looked at all of the big box retailers (Bass Pros, Gander Mountain, Dicks Sporting Goods, etc.), but it seems that they only carry high power hunting optics, or Aimpoints/ Eotechs. Does anyone have any ideas on where to look? I'm based in Columbus, but in the Dayton/ CIncy area often.

Thanks,

JC

I know fire power in mason (cincy area) had a Leuapold zombie (sorry dont know much on if they make different models of the zombie model).  Also jenamy gun shop in Milford usually carries a model of acog for very cheap like 750-800.  I think the web sites are firepowerllc.com and jenamygunshop.com. Hope this helps

I've been to Vance's a few times. I looked through their website to see what they had in stock and they weren't showing me anything...I may have to wait for a good gun show to come through.

check SWFA.com and look at the sample list. Lots of great deals on demo scopes for cheap.

I will definitely check out the demo deals. My biggest concern however is that I won't be able to actually look through the glass prior to purchase. I'd like to test drive before I buy.

I looked at a bunch of different brands, (not the scope your asking about, but similar priced) and to be honest I couldn't tell any difference between any of them.  I went with the American made product, it works great and has lifetime warranty.

So now after going back and forth on optics I've narrowed it down to two different choices...Vortex Viper PST 1-4 w/ Larue mount or going all in on a Trijicon TA11h-g Acog w/ Larue mount.

I like the idea of not paying for batteries in the Acog and the cool factor is there, but I don't know if its worth $500 more...
