Is anyone going to the machine gun shoot at Black Dog Gun Range in Hilham June 22-24? Any range reports from this place? I'd never heard of it until I was told about the shoot.

Sounds like they could use some better PR/marketing.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like it's a newer range. I'll be going, so hopefully it's worth the 2hr drive.

Saw some little yellow signs on the interstate today while driving home from Nashville.  I thought "oh cool, where the crap is Hilham, TN?" thinking it might be just off the interstate somewhere.  Then I looked at the map and thought

It's not quite as bad as it looks. It's a drive, yes. But maps are misleading though.

Yeah, I plan on going on Saturday.  Right now, I hope to get up there around Noon (got to drop the family off at the in-laws in Cookeville first) and possibly stay through the night shoot.

I just got back from the machine gun shoot. It wasn't too bad. Not nearly as big as I thought it was going to be though. Had fun shooting and blowing shit up though. I thought most of the vendors we're selling mostly low end stuff, but I guess I'm a bit of a gun snob. lol

Suppressed HK MP5 PDW

HK G36. Love it!

My brother and I set up next to the rental guys you shot at . We started shooting at 6 and the line went cold at 7:30 . My brother hit the spongebob target that had 10# of explosive in it . The smoke and dust  was beyond impressive , and we had to wait till it drifted past us . It took quite a while before we could see again .  We did run a few rounds through the rental McMillen 50 . I wish I had brought more ammo , but wasn't sure we would be shooting or able to shoot . The range officers were pretty cool too .

Just checking in myself.  IMHO, it was a small, decent show.  But, don't drive up there expecting a Knob Creek.  If so, you'll be disappointed.

I also went up to the Black Dog Range on Saturday, and my comments echo joshr502's ones.  Having missed the last Fall Knob Creek Shoot, I was hoping for something a little bigger, but I had to keep in mind that this was their first event of the sort.  As others here also pointed out, the P.R./advertising could have been a little better (for exa. getting some space in SAR and other mag's to get the word out).  Finally from one of the discussions with a vendor, there was at least another show this weeked (in GA).  These factors probably also played a role in keeping some of the local "big boys" that usually make Knob Creek (the J&T Dist., Cole's Distributing, Centerfire, etc.) from attending.

Also as joshr502 pointed out, there were several vendors selling the entry-level (AIM Sports, Condor, Leapers/UTG) gear.  I recognized other vendors from the area gun-shows (no big surprise there).  And, there were several vendors catering to the "prepping" crowd.  I also don't think they got all 200 vendor spaces sold.  Unfortunately, I stuck out on finding the one item I was really hoping to find (AK74 magazines).

The firing lin was  bit sparce.  As one of the vendors/renters said, "If I had known I was going to be just about the only person renting, I would have brought more."  Knob Creek Range provided the RSO's for the line.

Finally for those using vehicle GPS systems, don't use the address at the top of their page.  Use the other (688 Add Stafford Road - Hilham, TN 38568).

Hopefully, the show will continue and improve.  The drive for me [from South of Nashville] wasn't too bad.  But then, my parents are from that area (they grew up in Livingston), I went to college at TTU, and my wife' family lives in Cookeville.  Needless to say, I'm used to that drive.

Yeah, what's up with that address? That's what I plugged into my GPS. Turns out that address is nothing! The range is actually about 10 miles further down the curviest road in TN. lol Plus, when I used the GPS, it took much longer to get to the Turkey Town Road address from the HWY than it would have to the actual range address. Added at least 30 minutes to the trip. Kinda sucked when you're driving in from the Nashville area. Also, did any one else see any other parts of the range (pistol ranges, etc)? One of the reasons I went to the shoot was to do a range recon for possibly coming down to shoot on later dates. To me it looked like Black Dog range is just a plowed up field out in the middle of no where. Maybe I just missed the rest of the range complex.

I had no trouble finding it coming from near Nashville using the directions from Google Maps on the range website.
The range property is pretty extensive.  There is a LOT more work to be done on it, including carving out separate bays  for handgun, 3-gun, and subgun match use.  I was actually pretty pleased with what I saw.  There is lots of room for a campground, more vendor space, a longer rifle range, and lots of other improvements.
As one of the Range Officers, I'll add that we were all TN residents who wore our own shirts and hats in order to look uniform.  Since we had all worked Knob Creek before, that's what we had.  I've been told that we will have BlackDog shirts and hats in September.
For my part, I saw an operation that was surprisingly well-run for a first event.  I look forward to the next on in September.  My belief is that it will be even better then.  The exploding targets provided by C2 were plentiful and went off reliably when solidly hit.
Kudos to Bob for pulling it off.
Put the weekend of September 14, 15, 16 on your calendars.

Gotta pay attention, homey. We had the link up at the top of the forum for forever, just recently took it down.

There are some cool designs in there. I think I did mine with the ar15.com standard front logo and the "patron state" back image. Good stuffs.

I went with my folks and my wife on sat. I echo what everyone else has said.   We had a good time and my parents got to shoot full auto for the first time.  The one thing I was kind of annoyed by was the lack of info and communication on pricing for attendees.  I called the range (Bob I thinkk?) and was told about the parking and entry fee, but I didn't know that it was going to be another $10 to shoot.  We definately werent expecting the day to be cheap, I just would have liked to know everything up front.

Zach was that you with the M240 on the tripod?  I would have loved for my family to get on that since I was a 240 gunner on my deployment.

Nope , we set up to the left of the rental guys in the pictures above . I was not sure of being able to shoot and just grabbed some stuff sat before I left . I had a short AR , a 7.62 krink and a modded M11/9 . I didn't bring much ammo and there wasn't much for sale at the show , so we didn't get to shoot for long .
