Is it legal to bring magazine repair parts into the State?  Specifically, I have some magazines that are wearing out and I'd like to replace the magazine bodies.

I'd be bringing in only the bodies, not completed magazines (no floor plates, no springs, no followers).

Is that legal?

From what I've read yes. In theory you can replace the bodies of the current damaged magazines with  new ones. I would recommend keeping the old magazines around though - that's even what people who live in the other states did with their .308 converted magazines with their Armalite AR-10's.

Is this the type of question I should ask of the CA DOJ?

Yes,
It is only illegal if you manufacture or import new ones.
You can bring all the replacement parts in to this Kountry that you want, ie:bodies, followers, springs, floorplates.

Yes, it is perfectly legal to acquire magazine replacement parts, even though these parts are for high-cap mags. As long as you DO NOT "produce" new high-cap mags from replacement parts, you are safe.

However, I would suggest to keep worn out mag bodies as evidences.

I agree with you guys about this.  I did send an email question to the CA DOJ inquiring about their opinion.  If and when I get a response, I'll post it here.
