I ordered some AR stuff from Company X in State X (not California). As an unasked courtesy a P-Mag was included. This has happened more than once. Should I be worried?

I'd say it all depends on what you plan on doing with it. I would just be careful whos around if you ever decide to use it at a range. Maybe just keep it for a private range toy, but if someone is watching who you don't know i'd quit using it.

I take Pmags to some of the most public, LEO attended ranges in the area.  It's never been an issue because I rebuilt some of my older mags into Pmags.  I possess these mags legally.  THERE IS NO PROHIBITION ON OWNING HI CAP MAGS IN CA.

However, there is a prohibition on importing hi cap mags.

Kitteh, is it possible that they included courtesy mag rebuild kits to you?  I;m sure that is what their intention was .  If it was me, I would send them a very polite email thanking them for the most excellent customer service, but that you would humbly request that any future courtesy pmag kits be shipped disassembled to conform with state law.  Do you have a few older hicap mags that you would like to have rebuilt?  This is the perfect opportunity to do that.  Just make sure you don't end up with more mags than you legally possess!

Yes, that is what happened! Thanks for the advice!

Actually I have lots of mags I want to rebuild; when I recently moved I found a whole box of crappy Thermodls from like almost 20 years ago that are useless. What do I do, keep the old ones, to prove I "rebuilt" them?

That's a really gray area. I have kept mine but crushed the body in a vice. You can still tell it's a magazine but there's no way to return it to function. I bought a whole bunch of federal assault weapon pre-ban magazines and they're showing their age. I prefer the 20 round magazines so those .mil mags are even older than the 30 round ones.

I talked with my FFL guy about this; he handles hi-caps for LEO agencies, is up with the law, and he recommended just that procedure: re-build, but keep the old, destroyed parts as proof.
