Monday, November 20, 2006 Mission Viejo man sues Sheriff's Department Michael Momeni alleges that he lost his left eye after being shot by deputies while taking a shower in his home. By RACHANEE SRISAVASDI The Orange County Register SANTA ANA – A Mission Viejo man has sued the Sheriff's Department for assault and battery, alleging that he lost his left eye and suffered other injuries after being "negligently" and "unlawfully" shot by deputies. Michael Momeni, who filed his suit Nov. 15 in Orange County Superior Court, says he was shot in his home around 8 p.m. on Feb. 27. He asked for unspecified damages. Police came to Momeni's home that night after receiving reports he was a threat to himself, said his lawyer, Christopher Mears. Momeni was unarmed and taking a shower when police shot him unprovoked, he added. Sheriff's Capt. Tim Board could not comment on why police opened fire. He said less-lethal weapons were used. He added that an internal investigation is being conducted on the shooting. the media didnt even make an effort to get this one right. This was covered in one of my training classes right after it happened. The cops were dispatched there because the mans family, whom he lived with, said he was pyscotic and going to kill himself/them. When the cops arrived he stripped naked and barracaded himself in the bathroom. After negotiations through the door failed they forced open the door and deployed a K-9. He slashed at the K9 with a weapon of some type and advanced on the cops. One officer fired a single bean bag round at his abdomin. At the same moment the officer fired the suspect bent over at the waist during his charge and the bean bag hit him in the face. |

Guys, give RACHANEE SRISAVASDI a break. After that whole 92 year old woman shot by police in Atlanta thing, Rach was just hoping this could be his/her big story. Just twist a few facts here or there, and poof you have a victim. It's not his/her fault that the cops aren't commiting enough police brutality around here for him to get his big story. Poor guy or gal. |
