Looking for a good emergency/field/trauma medicine class here in Texas although in my case, Colorado, OK, or NM would be closer. If anyone knows of something please post up. Thanks.

I haven't taken one of their classes yet, but here is a review from a Fort Worth based gun blog:
http://www.itstactical.com/medcom/medical/tactical-medicine-training-with-lone-star-medics-medicine-x-course/

He is former NSW so if he thinks it is worth it, it probably is.

Doesn't Ma Duce have medical training at the Dallas range occasionally?

Courses like the one offered by Lone Star Medics is MUCH MUCH more comprehensive then the 2.5 hour class that Tiger Valley offers at Elm Fork.

I just looked at Lone Star's website. I had no idea that level of traing is available in Ft Worth. I may sign up for the gunshot wound module.

VERY basic or EMT with nothing in between. Since I'm not looking for a career change and have already done the Red Cross courses I am looking for something else.

I do believe A.C. offers paramedic courses.

Otherwise, I can't think of anything local to the panhandle except experience.  (Local municipalites USED ro offer Paramedic courses, but I don't know if they stil do.)

Go learn ya some of that.

I've been an EMT for 14 of my 29.4 years as a firefighter. If you think that poorly of EMT's, you need not be anything more. I was a Paramedic for 16 years.

There is an "old" saying: Paramedics save lives, EMTs save paramedics.

Get off that tall horse you're riding.

Of course, you COULD be a smidge more specific about that which you are wanting to learn. (What you wanna know, Willis?)

Whoa,Whoa, Whoa....slow your roll....I said NOTHING derogatory about anyone or their chosen career. I was only saying that the local classes were either very basic OR they were geared toward people who are looking to make a career out of the medical field. I have already taken the very basic classes and I have no interest in changing careers. I'm an attorney by trade, I make a very good living, I'm in my 40's....why in the HELL would I decide that I needed to become an EMT and where would I find the time for that level of study?

Most of the other guys in this thread understood that. What I was looking for was exactly what Lone Star offers- something that dealt with more serious injuries- blood loss, suturing, airway management etc.....in the form of a 2 or 3 day class. These types of courses are becoming much more popular these days (though not in our little burg...) it is a logical extension of the shooting schools- if you can shoot someone, MAYBE they can shoot/stab/bludgeon YOU..... THEN what do you do?That's a good question to be able to answer. That is my goal.

Not only that but there is a serious degradation of the availability of medical care that is coming in this country. Part of it is already here. My wife works in the field. Just yesterday President Halfrican passed an EO to try and alleviate the very serious drug shortage issues we are having. This is BEFORE Obama care takes full effect and if you're in the field you know what Doctors are saying about how it will affect their practice....... Things are going to get WORSE not better. I think it really behooves people to get off their asses and start being a little more proactive in their medical care and overall physical health.....I believe we're in for a rough fucking ride.

THAT is where I'm coming from.
