This morning I was taking my daughter to school and as we approached the campus a buck jumped in front of the car in front of mine. It was hit going roughly 50 mph and was knocked from the right side of the road to the left  and off ... I pulled up and the deer was writhing its entrails were pushed out of its anus... I instinctively pulled out my 357 ruger and put  3 125 grain golden sabres into its head.. Then went over and asked if the woman driving and her son were O.K... The woman was already on the phone and sobbing.. Her response was Yes we are O.K.  thank you for doing that I know you shot it... I nodded  and asked 1 more time are you sure you are O.K. She replied with a nod.
I told her that I needed to take my daughter to school and that I had to get the jeep back to my wife.. She nodded again and I left.....
Well I got to thinking after I got Home and I got worried... I have  a ccw and was told at my ccw class that I could go on to a campus with the gun but if I got out.... Instant felony.....
Well I wasnt on campus.... Then I got to thinking  you left the scene of an accident... Well there was only 1 insured party there.... So I called the sherriffs dept to make sure that  no complaints have been filed.... There response was that they were aware and  it was being handled by the state patrol and that they werent concerned....
Did I do the right thing?????

I'm not a lawyer but I wouldn't lose any sleep. It's perfectly legal to have a handgun in a car in GA, you put  a dying animal down which could have gotten back up and injured someone or caused another accident, and you didn't harvest it.

I think your actions mirror the "reasonable and prudent" actions any normal citizen may have taken at the time. Of course here in GA you should have gotten a picture to post on ARFCOM.

I see no problem, in my early days as a deputy sheriff, I've had to dispatch quite a few deer, cows too.
