Absoloutely and you may laugh but I'm sure I read somewhere about an idea for underslung pods on an aircraft proposed as a means of delivering a few troops per pod.

Naa, that 's just for the Royal Marines  cause the RAF complained it ruins the aerodynamics when they strap themselves on top of the mini wings.

Can't be bothered looking further but I found accounts of troop carrying pods for SF insertion and casevac for the P-38 Lightning, Harrier and even the F-16!

Yes, I saw that, seems to be becoming an SOP, but I was talking about pods in particular, I think the most recent plans I saw were for the F-16, 2 or 3 troops sat in line with the pod having a basic life support system. Not too sure how they were delivered, but they were Marines so I suppose you could just drop them and let gravity do it's thing
